Chapter 6 - Where Flowers BloomSix months later.

The spring sun shone brightly over a quiet, tree-lined street in the West Village of Manhattan. The air smelled of fresh rain, sweet jasmine, and freshly brewed espresso.

The double glass doors of a magnificent, brand-new storefront swung open, letting in the warm breeze. Above the entrance hung a beautifully carved wooden sign adorned with painted gold leaf:

THE BLOOMING PETAL Olivia & Family Florists

Inside, the shop was a paradise of color and light. Velvet roses, white lilies, orchids, and wild daisies filled elegant brass vases arranged along polished wooden tables. In the center of the shop stood a high wooden counter, and sitting on a stool behind it was a little girl with wild dark curls, diligently pressing dried forget-me-nots into a leather journal.

"Look, Miss Olivia!" Chloe called out proudly, holding up her book. "I did the border all by myself!"

I walked over from the rear greenhouse, wiping my hands on my canvas apron, and leaned down to kiss her cheek. "It's perfect, sweetie. Your mom would have loved it."

Chloe smiled brightly, her storm-gray eyes sparkling with complete, peaceful happiness.

The shop door’s brass bell chimed softly.

A tall, breathtaking man in a sleek dark blue suit stepped into the shop, holding a leather briefcase in one hand and a box of fresh pastries in the other.

Sebastian had changed over the last six months. The dark, haunted exhaustion that had plagued his eyes was entirely gone. Under his leadership, the Vance Empire had undergone a total, unprecedented transformation. All illicit operations had been completely dismantled or turned over to federal authorities, while the family's massive legal holdings were transitioned into global green energy trusts, sustainable shipping, and educational foundations.

Vincent and his co-conspirators were serving life sentences in maximum-security federal prison, ensuring that the shadows of the past would never touch our lives again.

"Daddy!" Chloe cheered, jumping off her stool and sprinting across the floor.

Sebastian dropped his briefcase, dropped to one knee, and caught his daughter in a bear hug, lifting her high into the air as she giggled uncontrollably.

"How was school today, my little flower?" Sebastian asked, kissing her forehead before setting her gently back down on her feet.

"I got an A on my flower drawing!" Chloe announced proudly, turning to grab her pastry box and running toward the back garden table to eat.

Sebastian stood up, turning his gaze toward me. A slow, warm, deeply loving smile spread across his handsome face—a smile that still made my heart skip a beat every single time I saw it.

He walked over to the counter, wrapped his arms around my waist, and pulled me flush against his chest.

"You smell like lilies and sunshine," he whispered, leaning down to press a soft, lingering kiss to my lips.

"And you smell like expensive coffee and corporate restructuring," I teased, smiling against his mouth as I wrapped my arms around his neck. "How was the board meeting?"

"Official," Sebastian declared proudly, pulling a sleek set of legal documents from his jacket pocket and laying them on the counter. "The Vance Foundation has officially approved a ten-million-dollar grant to build public botanical gardens across all five boroughs. And the board voted unanimously to name you the executive director."

I gasped, looking at the documents in utter disbelief. "Sebastian... are you serious?"

"I've never been more serious in my life," he said softly, his voice dropping into a tender, passionate register.

He reached into his inner suit pocket and pulled out a small, velvet-lined mahogany box.

My breath caught in my throat.

Sebastian didn't drop to one knee with corporate fanfare or dramatic mob declarations. He simply held the box between us, opening it to reveal a breathtaking, custom-designed ring—a brilliant, sparkling diamond shaped like a blooming flower, surrounded by small, delicate sapphires.

"Six months ago, I walked into your shop a broken man, terrified of the world, running from my past," Sebastian said, looking deep into my eyes, his gray gaze filled with absolute devotion. "You opened your door, you protected my daughter, and you showed me that even in the darkest soil, something beautiful can grow."

He took my hand, his fingers warm and steady against mine.

"Olivia... you gave me a family. You gave me a life worth living. Will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?"

Tears of pure, unadulterated joy spilled over my eyelashes, trailing down my cheeks as I laughed through my tears.

"Yes," I whispered, throwing my arms around his neck. "Yes, Sebastian! A thousand times yes!"

He slipped the ring onto my finger, pulling me into a deep, passionate kiss that seemed to stop time itself. Outside the shop window, Manhattan moved along its busy streets, but inside The Blooming Petal, the world was warm, quiet, and complete.

"Is Miss Olivia going to be my mommy now?" Chloe’s sweet voice called out from the doorway of the garden.

Sebastian pulled back from the kiss, keeping his arm wrapped securely around my waist, and looked over at his daughter with a glowing smile.

May you like

"Yes, my little flower," Sebastian replied softly, reaching out his hand for Chloe to join us. "She’s going to be your mommy forever."

Chloe ran over, hugging both of our legs, and we stood together in the center of the sunlit flower shop—a family born out of storm and rain, now blooming forever under a bright, beautiful sky.
