Chapter 6 - A New DawnSix months later.

The summer sun shone brightly over the pristine rolling hills of the DeSantos estate. The air smelled of fresh-cut grass, blooming roses, and the distant salt breeze from the lake.
Near the central fountain in the estate garden, a large wooden pavilion had been constructed. Underneath its shade, a long dining table was set with white linen, fine china, and silver platters piled high with fresh pasta, grilled meats, and red wine.
Laughter filled the afternoon air.
Little Sophia was running across the lush green lawn, chasing Titan, who was fully recovered, his massive gray body moving with energetic health, his tail wagging happily as he bounced after the young girl.
Sitting at the outdoor table were Gabriel and Elena. Gabriel looked entirely transformed—the dark, haunted lines of his face had softened, replaced by the peace of a man who had his life and family back. He now served as the chief head of security for the DeSantos family's legal shipping operations, working alongside Marco, who sat beside him, laughing over a glass of wine.
Near the edge of the fountain stood Nadia.
She wore a soft, knee-length yellow dress that caught the sunlight, her dark hair falling in soft waves over her shoulders. Her hands—the hands that had once hid in the dark—now rested comfortably against the warm stone of the fountain.
Beside her stood Dr. Arthur Vance.
The old surgeon held a leather case, which he presented to Nadia with a formal, respectful bow.
"Open it, Dr. Castillo," Vance said, a rare, genuine smile on his face.
Nadia opened the case. Inside lay a newly issued surgical license from the State of Illinois, alongside an official appointment letter designating her as the Chief Medical Officer of the brand-new Castillo-DeSantos Veterinary Trauma and Research Center—a state-of-the-art clinic currently under construction in downtown Chicago, funded entirely by Lorenzo.
"The medical board reviewed the full records of the Otis case," Dr. Vance explained softly. "With the new evidence provided regarding the pre-existing cardiac condition of the animal, your name has been completely cleared. You are officially reinstated, Nadia."
Tears glistened in Nadia's eyes as she touched the smooth paper of her license. "Thank you, Arthur."
"Don't thank me," Vance chuckled, nodding toward the main house. "Thank the man who refused to take no for an answer."
Nadia turned her head.
Lorenzo was walking down the stone steps from the terrace. He wore a crisp white linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his forearms, dark trousers, and no necktie. He looked relaxed, powerful, and undeniably happy.
As he reached her, Dr. Vance respectfully stepped away to join the family at the dining table.
Lorenzo stepped into Nadia's space, reaching out to wrap his arm gently around her waist, pulling her close against his side. He looked down at the paper in her hands, a warm smile gracing his handsome face.
"So," Lorenzo murmured, his thumb gently tracing her hip. "Is the Chief Medical Officer pleased with her new clinic?"
"It's incredible, Lorenzo," Nadia whispered, looking up into his dark, luminous eyes. "You didn't have to do all this."
"I did," Lorenzo said softly, his voice dropping into that rich, velvet tone that always made her heart flutter. "You saved Titan. You saved your family. And you saved me from becoming the kind of man my enemies wanted me to be. Building you a hospital was the bare minimum."
Nadia laughed—a clear, beautiful sound that echoed over the garden. She reached up, resting her hand against his cheek, feeling the soft stubble beneath her fingers.
"I spent three years hiding, Lorenzo," she said softly, looking into his eyes. "I thought my life was over the night I walked away from that clinic. I thought the darkness was all I had left."
Lorenzo leaned down, his forehead resting against hers, his dark eyes filled with absolute, unshakeable devotion.
"The darkness was just where you were waiting, Nadia," Lorenzo whispered. "Now you're home."
He leaned in and kissed her.
It was a sweet, deep, magnificent kiss under the warm Chicago sun—a seal on a future born from blood, courage, and redemption.

Across the lawn, Titan let out a loud, joyous bark, trotting over to sit right beside them, resting his giant head against Nadia's leg. Lorenzo laughed against her lips, wrapping his arm tighter around her, holding his entire world close.
The shadows were gone. The truth had silenced their enemies. And in the bright light of a new day, Nadia Castillo had finally found her peace.
