CHAPTER 2 — Fighting for a Second Chance

Arjun returned to the hospital the next day.
Then the day after that.
And the day after that.
At first Maya protested.
“You don't have to do this.”
“Yes, I do.”
“You're my ex-husband.”
Arjun shook his head.
“No. I'm the idiot who walked away before asking what was really wrong.”
Treatment was brutal.
Some days Maya could barely sit up.
Some days she couldn't stop crying from exhaustion.
But Arjun stayed.
He brought meals.
Held her hand during chemotherapy.
Read books aloud when she was too tired to speak.
Slowly, something began healing between them.
Not the past.
But the connection they thought they had lost.
One evening Maya finally asked:
“Why are you still here?”
Arjun smiled sadly.
“Because I never stopped loving you.”
May you like
Tears filled her eyes.
For the first time since the divorce, she let herself believe him.
