PART 5: The Trap is Sprung

The digital setup took three days. Silas, Roman's head of security, established a highly secure, isolated network terminal inside an abandoned industrial warehouse at the edge of the Blackmere shipping docks. It was the perfect kill zone—isolated, easily defensible, and entirely under Roman's control.
They knew the moment Nora pressed her thumb against the miniature scanner on the microchip, the Morettis would receive the location ping. They expected the Chicago mob to deploy an elite, heavy hit squad to reclaim the ledger and eliminate Nora once and for all.
The night was pitch black, a torrential downpour masking the sound of the ocean waves crashing against the concrete docks. Nora sat inside a reinforced glass security booth in the center of the warehouse, her thumb resting over the scanner.
Roman stood right beside her, wearing a tactical vest over his dark shirt, a heavy automatic pistol strapped to his hip. Twenty of his best marksmen were hidden in the rafters above, their crosshairs trained on every single entrance.
"Are you ready, Eleanor?" Roman asked, his hand squeezing her arm gently.
Nora looked at him, drawing strength from his calm presence. "Ready."
She pressed her thumb firmly against the metallic scanner. The tiny LED light blinked red, then amber, and finally turned a bright, solid green. On the primary computer monitor, a massive stream of encrypted data began to cascade down the screen like digital rain.
Biometric Match Confirmed. Downloading Vance-Moretti Ledger.
"Signal sent," Silas reported over the comms from the master control room. "The Chicago server just intercepted the ping. They’re moving. We have multiple high-speed vehicles entering the dock perimeter right now."
Within four minutes, the heavy steel doors of the warehouse were violently blown open by explosive charges. The sound echoed through the massive structure like thunder.
Three black armored vans tore into the concrete floor, their tires screeching to a halt. Dominic Moretti stepped out of the lead vehicle, wielding a military-grade assault rifle, surrounded by fifteen heavily armed mercenaries.
"Blackmere!" Dominic screamed into the rafters, his voice echoing frantically. "I know you're in here! Give us the girl and the chip, and we might let you keep your city! If not, everyone in this building dies tonight!"
From the shadows of the upper catwalks, Roman's voice rang out, cold, detached, and utterly terrifying. "You crossed my border again, Dominic. I told you what would happen if you raised your voice in my city."
"Kill them all!" Dominic roared, raising his rifle.
Before he could pull the trigger, the warehouse erupted into a symphony of controlled chaos. Roman’s marksmen opened fire from the rafters with absolute, lethal precision. The hidden tactical lights flashed on, blinding the mercenaries below.
Nora watched from the safety of the reinforced booth as the Moretti hit squad was systematically dismantled. It wasn't a battle; it was a execution. Dominic's men fell one by one, completely outmatched by the superior strategy and positioning of the Blackmere forces.
Dominic, panicking as his men dropped around him, spotted the glass booth in the center of the floor. He charged forward, screaming in a frenzy of pure rage, aiming his weapon straight at Nora through the glass.
Before he could fire a single round, a heavy shadow dropped from the upper platform, landing directly in front of him.
It was Roman.
With a lightning-fast movement, Roman grabbed the barrel of Dominic’s rifle, twisting it upward as a burst of bullets shattered harmless into the corrugated ceiling. Roman slammed his elbow into Dominic's jaw, sending the Chicago mobster crashing heavily onto the wet concrete.
Dominic spat blood, trying to reach for a sidearm, but Roman stepped on his wrist, the heavy sole of his boot crushing the bones with a sickening crunch. Dominic screamed, his weapon slipping away.
Roman looked down at him, his expression completely blank, devoid of any anger or malice. "Your uncle's empire ends tonight, Dominic. The federal authorities just received a full copy of your ledger. By tomorrow morning, there won't be a Moretti left on the streets of Chicago."
Dominic stared up at him, his face contorted in pain and realization. "You... you gave it to the feds? You're a boss! You don't talk to the government!"
"I don't talk to them," Roman said calmly, leaning down. "Eleanor Vance did. She’s a civilian under my protection. And I always protect my people."

With a swift, clean strike of his pistol butt, Roman knocked Dominic into complete unconsciousness.
The warehouse fell completely silent once more, save for the hum of the computer terminal completing the final data transfer. The Moretti threat had been entirely neutralized in a single, perfectly orchestrated strike.
