The final courtroom battle did not take place in a grand, historic chamber, but in a quiet, sterile federal bankruptcy court in downtown Manhattan.
Eric Langston sat at the defense table, looking like a ghost of his former self. His expensive suit was wrinkled, his hair uncombed, his eyes carrying the vacant, hollow stare of a man who had realized his entire life was an illusion.
