Chapter 5 - THE SIEGE OF ZURICH & RALEIGHThe rain outside had turned into a torrential storm, hammering the glass conservatory where Dr. Vance, Mrs. Harlow, and I stood huddled around the mahogany table. Mia was still sleeping soundly upstairs in the guest suite, tucked safely between fresh pillows under Mrs. Harlow’s watchful eye, while the newborn rested in a proper bassinet we had finally managed to set up.

"If we move too fast, Ethan will alert his syndicate contacts," Dr. Vance said, tapping the gold flash drive against the tabletop. "They have deep pockets and zero regard for local jurisdiction. But if we use his own backdoor code against him, we can lock out his corporate accounts, freeze his offshore crypto wallets, and simultaneously trigger an international medical extraction for Clara."

"And the baby?" I asked, looking toward the bassinet where my son let out a tiny, contented sigh in his sleep. "What happens to him while we dismantle this entire operation?"

"He stays right here," a voice interrupted from the doorway.

We turned. Ethan was standing at the threshold, no longer wearing his silk robe, but fully dressed in an expensive designer suit, clutching a leather briefcase under his arm. Two heavily armed private security guards—men I didn't recognize, hired directly through his syndicate contacts—flanked him on either side, their hands resting casually near the holsters beneath their jackets.

"Nice try, Dr. Vance," Ethan sneered, a triumphant grin spreading across his face as he stepped into the conservatory. "Did you really think I wouldn't track your access logs to my own home server? You brought the master decryption key right into my living room."

Dr. Vance didn't flinch. She simply crossed her arms, a cold smile touching her lips. "Ethan, you really are a spectacular idiot. You think security logs only work one way?"

Before Ethan’s guards could react, the heavy oak doors behind them slammed open with a deafening crash.

Four armed federal marshals, led by my corporate attorney Marcus—who had finally answered my encrypted emergency beacon—swarmed into the conservatory, their tactical weapons raised and trained directly on Ethan’s mercenaries.

"Drop your weapons! Federal agents!" Marcus shouted, his voice echoing off the glass walls.

Ethan’s face went chalk white. He spun around, looking for an escape route, but the conservatory exits were completely blocked.

"You—you set me up," Ethan stammered, his eyes darting wildly between Dr. Vance and me.

"You set yourself up the moment you touched my family, Ethan," I said, walking slowly toward him, my voice steady and cold as ice. "The federal marshals have already frozen your offshore accounts. NovaGenics’ master servers have been seized under federal warrant. And the extraction team in Zurich is already pulling Clara out of that sanitarium."

Ethan lunged forward in a desperate, pathetic attempt to grab the gold flash drive from the table, but one of the marshals tackled him to the floor, pinning his face against the cold marble tiles with a pair of steel handcuffs clicking into place.

As they hauled him away, kicking and screaming obscenities into the rainy night air, the conservatory fell quiet once more.
