Chapter 6 - A New Dawn at the Vance Estate

The autumn breeze swept through the manicured grounds of the Vance estate, carrying with it the crisp scent of falling leaves and the distant, soothing sound of the Atlantic surf crashing against the rocks far below.

Inside the grand ballroom—the very room where cruelty had once reigned supreme—the atmosphere tonight was transformed entirely. There were no snobs draped in stolen pride, no backstabbing socialites, and no venomous plots hatched in the shadows.

Instead, the room was filled with laughter, music, and genuine warmth.

The tables were draped in fine white linen, laden with food prepared not for show, but to be shared among friends. Seated at the head table was Margaret Vance, wearing her favorite faded floral dress, laughing as she recounted old family stories to a group of scholars and foundation directors.

And standing near the grand arched windows, looking out over the illuminated gardens, were Ella and Dominic.

Ella wore a stunning, emerald-green silk evening gown that caught the chandelier light with every movement. The mark of Vivienne’s slap was long gone, replaced by the natural glow of a woman who had reclaimed her rightful place in the world.

Dominic stood close behind her, his arm resting gently around her waist, his gaze fixed entirely on her profile.

“You know,” Ella murmured with a soft smile, watching the guests below, “sometimes I still look at these walls and remember what it felt like to stand here with a serving tray, wondering if I would survive the week.”

“You survived because you were unbreakable,” Dominic replied softly, pressing a gentle kiss to her temple. “And this house doesn't belong to the ghosts of the past anymore, Ella. It belongs to us.”

Across the room, the double doors opened, and a courier delivered a final piece of mail—a certified legal notice forwarded from the federal penitentiary upstate.

Dominic took the envelope, glanced at the sender’s name (Ashford, V.), and without even opening it, dropped it directly into a nearby wastepaper basket. He didn't need to read it. People like Vivienne lived in the past, consumed by their own bitterness and greed.

He and Ella lived in the present, building a future brick by brick, truth by truth.

Ella turned around in his arms, wrapping her hands around his neck. She looked up into the eyes of the man who had once been known as the most feared man in Manhattan, but who was now simply her partner, her defender, and her home.

The music swelled, filling the grand estate with a melody of triumph, healing, and enduring love. The nightmare was over. The empire was safe. And for Ella Marsh, the dawn of her true life was finally beginning.
