Part 2: Shattered Trust

Weeks turned into months of psychological warfare. Victoria controlled every aspect of life in the mansion. She monitored Eleanor’s phone, restricted her visitors, and constantly reminded her that she was “just a temporary guest” in the family.

The tea incident was even more vicious.

During an important afternoon tea with influential guests, Victoria “accidentally” knocked over a pot of scalding hot tea, pouring it directly onto Eleanor’s chest and neck. The burning pain was excruciating. Red marks immediately bloomed across Eleanor’s fair skin. She collapsed to the floor in agony while Victoria pretended to be shocked.

Marcus stood there again, hand over his mouth, saying nothing meaningful. Later that night, he apologized weakly, promising it would never happen again. But Eleanor knew better. Her husband had chosen his mother’s side long ago.

Isabella’s return made everything worse. She began appearing at family events, openly flirting with Marcus, while Victoria encouraged her. Eleanor felt invisible, unwanted, and increasingly afraid for her unborn child.

In secret, Eleanor started recording conversations. She documented every insult, every act of sabotage. She met quietly with a lawyer and a private investigator. For the first time, she allowed herself to imagine a life without the Langfords.

Her baby kicked strongly one night, as if reminding her why she had to survive.
