Chapter 6 - A Bright Horizon
Six months later, the early autumn sun hung warm and brilliant over the manicured lawns and historic brick facade of Boston General Hospital.
The dark cloud of corruption that had hung over the administration building for years had been completely cleared. A new, transparent board of directors had been installed, funding had been restored to the trauma wards, and the emergency department was once again a sanctuary of genuine healing and hope.
I stood on the wide front steps of the hospital, wearing a sharp, professional blazer, breathing in the crisp, clean air of a world that had finally returned to balance.
From the wide glass doors behind me, Dr. Evelyn Carter walked out, carrying a warm cup of coffee, her white lab coat fluttering gently in the breeze. She looked relaxed, radiant, and entirely at peace.
“You know,” Evelyn smiled, handing me a second cup of coffee as she stepped up beside the railing. “For a former federal investigator, you make a surprisingly good trauma nurse.”
“And for a brilliant trauma surgeon, you throw a remarkably effective hip-throw,” I laughed, clinking my coffee cup against hers.
Down on the front walkway, a young boy with bright eyes and a skateboard tucked under his arm walked past with his mother. It was Leo Martinez—fully recovered, healthy, and thriving, waving happily at us as he headed home to start a brand-new chapter of his life.

Far away from this peaceful sanctuary, in a cold, sterile concrete cell in the maximum-security wing of the federal penitentiary system, Vincent and Dante Romano were currently sitting in coarse orange jumpsuits, their names reduced to federal inmate numbers, their empire turned to absolute ash. They had tried to break an emergency room through intimidation and fear. The universe had simply balanced the ledger.
The storm had passed. The corruption had been purged. And looking out across the wide, sun-drenched expanse of the Boston skyline, our world was finally resting under a bright, unshakable horizon.
