Chapter 3 - The Boardroom ExecutionBy nine o'clock on Thursday morning, the corporate headquarters of Wolf Logistics in downtown Atlanta was in utter turmoil.

Rumors had been flying through the halls for twenty-four hours. Executive vice presidents were whispering near the coffee machines, security guards were standing at attention near the elevators, and the financial press was parked outside the glass doors on Peachtree Street.

Jeffrey Wolf sat in the chief executive office on the forty-second floor, his tie undone, his eyes bloodshot, his hands shaking as he downed his third glass of scotch.

Beside him, Cynthia was pacing frantically across the plush Persian rug, clutching a designer handbag.

"They froze my accounts, Jeffrey!" Cynthia shrieked, her voice shrill with panic. "I tried to use my Black Card at the hotel this morning and the receptionist told me it was declined! The hotel manager threatened to call the police if we didn't pay for the suite by noon!"

"Shut up, Cynthia!" Jeffrey yelled, slamming his glass onto the mahogany desk. "I'm trying to think! My lawyer isn't answering his phone! The District Attorney’s office sent a subpoena to my home address this morning!"

"Then call your mother!" Cynthia demanded. "She has money in her private accounts!"

"My mother’s accounts are frozen too!" Jeffrey screamed, burying his head in his hands. "Madeline froze everything! Every single account tied to my name or my family's name is locked down!"

The heavy double doors of the executive office burst open.

Jeffrey’s chief financial officer, Robert Hayes, rushed inside, his face as pale as chalk. "Jeffrey! The board of directors has called an emergency meeting in the main boardroom! Right now!"

Jeffrey stood up, adjusting his jacket with trembling hands. "A board meeting? I'm the majority shareholder! They can't call a meeting without my consent!"

"They didn't call it, Jeffrey," Robert said, his voice shaking. "She did."

Jeffrey froze. "What?"

"Madeline is in the boardroom," Robert revealed. "She brought the senior representatives from the European Investment Consortium, two federal prosecutors, and four uniformed police officers."

Jeffrey felt his stomach drop into a dark, bottomless pit.

Five minutes later, Jeffrey walked into the grand boardroom on the top floor.

The long glass table was surrounded by twelve members of the board of directors, three corporate attorneys, and representatives from the city’s major logistics partners.

At the head of the table sat Madeline.

She looked breathtakingly powerful. She wore a tailored charcoal-grey pantsuit, her dark hair pulled back into a sleek, professional knot, her posture radiating absolute authority. Sitting beside her was Victoria Thorne, alongside two agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

As Jeffrey entered, every single person at the table turned to glare at him with absolute disgust.

"Madeline..." Jeffrey stammered, trying to assume a position of power at the foot of the table. "This is an internal corporate matter. You have no right to occupy the executive chair—"

"Sit down, Jeffrey," Madeline said smoothly. Her voice was calm, controlled, and utterly dominant.

"I am the CEO of this company!" Jeffrey shouted, trying to muster some authority. "You are just a director!"

Victoria Thorne stood up, opening a sleek black binder.

"Correction, Mr. Wolf," Victoria announced loudly. "As of eight-thirty this morning, the European Investment Consortium—which holds forty-two percent of Wolf Logistics’ equity—exercised their emergency default clause following your indictment for federal wire fraud and grand larceny."

Victoria handed a document to the board secretary.

"Furthermore," Victoria continued, "Mrs. Madeline Wolf personally purchased thirty-five percent of the remaining shares from secondary institutional investors over the last forty-eight hours using her private London capital fund. Combined, Mrs. Wolf now controls seventy-seven percent of the voting shares of Wolf Logistics."

Jeffrey stared at his wife in sheer horror. "You... you bought my company?"

"I didn't buy your company, Jeffrey," Madeline corrected him, leaning forward and resting her chin on her linked fingers. "I built this company. While you were spending afternoons in luxury hotels with your secretary, I was securing sixty-million-dollar distribution contracts in Frankfurt, Rotterdam, and London. You were merely a figurehead holding a title because I loved you."

She gestured toward the two FBI agents standing near the door.

"The board of directors has just voted unanimously to terminate your employment as Chief Executive Officer with cause," Madeline stated coldly. "You have no severance. You have no stock options. You have no authority."

Cynthia, who had followed Jeffrey into the room, rushed toward the table. "You can't do this! Jeffrey built this firm! You're just a bitter, jealous wife who couldn't keep her husband!"

Madeline turned her gaze slowly toward Cynthia.

"Ms. Harrington," Madeline said softly. "I believe the FBI agents behind you have a warrant for your arrest regarding the four point two million dollars in stolen corporate funds you spent in Savannah."

The two FBI agents stepped forward, pulling out two pairs of steel handcuffs.

"Cynthia Harrington," the lead agent declared, "you are under arrest for conspiracy to commit wire fraud, grand larceny, and obstruction of justice."

"No! Get your hands off me!" Cynthia shrieked as the agents pulled her arms behind her back, locking the steel cuffs tightly around her wrists. "Jeffrey! Do something! Help me!"

Jeffrey stood frozen, paralyzed by terror, as his mistress was dragged screaming out of the boardroom in front of his entire executive team.

The lead agent then turned his attention directly to Jeffrey.

"Jeffrey Wolf," the agent said coldly, pulling out a second set of handcuffs. "You are under arrest for felony child cruelty, criminal medical neglect, wire fraud, and grand larceny. You have the right to remain silent..."

As the cold steel snapped around Jeffrey’s wrists, he looked across the table at Madeline, tears of pathetic desperation pouring down his face.

"Madeline... please," Jeffrey sobbed, dropping to his knees on the carpet. "Think of our family! Think of what people will say! I made a mistake! I was weak! Please... give me one more chance!"

Madeline stood up slowly from the executive chair. She walked around the long glass table until she was standing right in front of her kneeling husband.

She looked down at him without a single trace of emotion in her eyes.

"You didn't make a mistake, Jeffrey," Madeline said softly, her voice echoing in the dead silent boardroom. "You made a choice. You chose to let my son crawl on the floor like an animal while you lived in luxury. Now, you get to live with the consequences of that choice."

She turned to the federal agents.

"Take him out of my building."
