Chapter 4 - The Eviction and the ExposureThe fall of the Wolf family did not stop in the boardroom.

By Friday afternoon, news of the scandal had exploded across every major news network in Atlanta and across the country. The video and audio recordings from the Wolf estate had been leaked to the press—with Liam’s identity strictly protected by court order—exposing the horrific cruelty inflicted upon the young heir by his father, grandmother, and his father's mistress.

In the wealthy enclave of Buckhead, Noelle Wolf stood on the front lawn of her private townhouse, screaming at four moving men who were carrying her expensive antique furniture out to the street.

"Stop this immediately!" Noelle shrieked, her face red, her expensive hair styled wildly. "I am Noelle Wolf! My family built the civic center! You cannot touch my property!"

Standing near the curb, holding a clip board alongside two Fulton County sheriff deputies, was Victoria Thorne.

"Mrs. Wolf," Victoria said calmly, stepping over a silver tea set that had been placed on the grass. "This townhouse was purchased using funds from the Bennett-Wolf Family Trust. Since the court has placed the trust under emergency receivership due to your felony child abuse indictment, all real estate assets tied to the trust are being liquidated immediately to fund Liam’s medical and psychological care trust."

"You are throwing an old woman onto the street?!" Noelle screamed, tears of rage smearing her makeup. "Where am I supposed to go?!"

"That is no longer our concern, Mrs. Wolf," Victoria replied coldly. "However, I suggest you pack a small bag. Your arraignment hearing begins at two o'clock, and the judge has explicitly denied bail."

A black police cruiser pulled up to the curb. Two female deputies stepped out, approached the screaming elderly woman, and handcuffed her behind her back in full view of her wealthy neighbors, who stood on their lawns watching with open satisfaction.

Meanwhile, at the pediatric wing of Scottish Rite Hospital, the atmosphere was entirely different.

The afternoon sun poured warm, golden light through the wide windows of the private suite.

Liam was sitting up in bed, supported by several soft pillows. For the first time in two years, he was holding a spoon by himself, carefully eating a bowl of warm peach yogurt.

Madeline sat beside him on the edge of the mattress, holding a picture book open on her lap.

"Look, sweetie," Madeline whispered gently, pointing at an illustration of a bright yellow puppy running across a green field. "What does the doggie say?"

Liam looked at the picture. His dark eyes flicked up to his mother’s face, searching her eyes for any sign of anger, tension, or danger. Seeing only warm, unwavering love, a tiny, tentative smile appeared on his lips.

"...Woof," Liam whispered softly.

Madeline felt tears spring to her eyes, but she smiled brightly, leaning down to press a soft kiss against his forehead. "That's right, my sweet boy! Woof woof!"

Liam let out a tiny, soft giggle—a sound so pure, so precious, that Madeline felt as though her entire soul were being healed after months of unimaginable agony.

He set his spoon down in the bowl, reached out his small, clean hand, and gently patted Madeline’s cheek.

"Mommy... stay?" Liam asked, his small voice trembling with a hint of worry.

Madeline took his tiny hand, pressing it against her lips, kissing every one of his small fingers.

"Mommy is staying forever, my darling," Madeline swore, her voice ringing with absolute, eternal conviction. "I will never leave you again. Never."

The door opened quietly, and Dr. Vance stepped inside, holding a small physical therapy ball.

"Well, look at our champion today!" Dr. Vance said warmly, stepping up to the bed. "Are you ready to try standing up today, Liam? Mommy is right here to hold your hand."

Liam looked at his mother, then at the doctor. He held out both of his hands toward Madeline.

Madeline gripped his small hands firmly in hers. "I've got you, my love. Step by step."

Slowly, carefully, with his tiny legs trembling slightly from the weeks of disuse, Liam pushed himself up from the bed. He stood upright on his own two feet, his toes gripping the soft hospital carpet.

He didn't crawl. He didn't drop to his knees. He stood tall, looking up at his mother with wide, proud eyes.

"Look at you!" Madeline cried out softly, tears of joy streaming down her face. "You are so strong, Liam! You are my bravest boy!"

Liam let out a loud, delighted laugh, taking one small step forward directly into his mother’s waiting arms.
