Chapter 6 - A New Dawn Over ManhattanThe rain began to fall softly against the floor-to-ceiling glass windows of the DeLuca penthouse, blurring the twinkling lights of the bridge into shimmering streaks of gold and silver. It was a Friday night—exactly one month since the night her life had turned completely upside down.

Instead of rushing to catch a crowded subway train after a grueling double shift, Anna stood by the window in a sweeping emerald evening gown, looking down at the city she had once feared. Below her, the streets of Manhattan hummed with life, but the city felt different now. It felt open. It felt conquered.

A pair of strong arms wrapped gently around her waist from behind, resting comfortably as Victor pulled her back against his chest.

“Penny for your thoughts?” Victor murmured, resting his chin lightly on her shoulder.

“I was just thinking about how fragile everything is,” Anna confessed softly, leaning back into his embrace. “One second you’re invisible, struggling to pay rent and hiding behind a service apron... and the next, your entire world is unrecognizable.”

“You weren't invisible to me, Anna,” Victor whispered, turning her gently in his arms so she was facing him. “Even when you were carrying those trays across that dining room, you had more courage in your little finger than half the politicians and socialites in that room combined.”

Anna smiled, reaching up to touch the lapel of his tailored black suit jacket. “And you? Are you still the terrifying mafia king everyone whispers about in dark corners?”

“Only to people who deserve it,” Victor chuckled darkly, his dark eyes softening as he looked down at her. “For you... I’m just a man who finally found someone worth building an empire for.”

He reached into his pocket, pulling out a small, elegant velvet box. He didn't make a grand speech or drop to his knees; men like Victor DeLuca spoke through actions, loyalty, and an unshakeable promise of protection. He simply opened the box, revealing a ring that caught the ambient light of the penthouse like a captured star.

“No more hiding, Anna,” he said, his voice deep and steady. “No more struggling alone. Build this life with me.”

Tears welled in Anna’s eyes, but this time, there was no fear, no pain, and no humiliation—only the overwhelming warmth of a future she had never dared to dream of.

She smiled, nodding against his chest. “Yes, Victor. Forever.”

As the rain washed clean the streets of Manhattan far below, the past was washed away with it. The waitress who had fallen on the marble floor was gone, replaced by a queen who stood beside the most powerful man in the city, knowing that no one would ever dare make her kneel again.
