Chapter 5 - The ReckoningThe trial was brief. Eleanor and Conrad Price were indicted on multiple counts of conspiracy, fraud, and the wrongful death of Margaret Cole. The case was so public, so damning, and so meticulously documented by my phone and the internal logs I’d managed to secure, that there was no room for a defense.
I walked the grounds of the estate one last time before leaving. The air felt lighter. The shadow that had hung over the Cole mansion for two years had finally lifted.
Adrien met me at the front gate. He held out an envelope.
"This is the restitution for your father's back wages and his pension," he said. "And this is a letter of apology, which I’ve already sent to the press."
I took the envelope. "I don't need the money, Adrien. I need the truth to be the official record."
"It is," he replied. "And you have a position at the firm, if you want it. My family’s legal team could use someone who knows how to spot a lie."
