Chapter 6 - The Council of Wolves and the Coronation of the HeirThe grand assembly hall of the Gallagher syndicate headquarters in downtown Greyhaven looked like a cathedral built for corporate predators. Massive arched stained-glass windows cast long beams of ruby and sapphire light across a forty-foot mahogany boardroom table surrounded by twenty-four syndicate capos, regional directors, and family elders.

The atmosphere was thick with cigar smoke, whispered conspiracies, and palpable tension.

At the head of the table sat Declan Gallagher, silent and impassive. To his right stood Marcus Vance, holding a leather-bound ledger containing the syndicate’s financial audits.

The double doors at the end of the hall swung open.

The room fell instantly dead silent.

Leo Gallagher walked in. He wore a bespoke, charcoal-gray three-piece suit that fit his tall frame with immaculate precision. His posture was straight, his shoulders square, and his dark hair neatly combed. Gone were the headphones, gone was the defensive hunch. He walked with the slow, terrifying, unhurried grace of a apex predator entering his territory.

And walking right beside him, with her hand resting securely in the crook of his arm, was Tessa.

She wore a breathtaking, tailored emerald-green silk dress that commanded the room’s attention, her hair styled in a sleek chignon, her green eyes shining with absolute, unshakeable confidence. She wasn't just a guest; she was an equal partner standing in the lion's den.

Whispers rippled through the capos. Dominic sat near the back, his face bruised from his ejection the night before, his eyes burning with helpless hatred.

“Let us begin,” Declan announced, his raspy voice echoing off the vaulted ceiling. “The vote is for the sole succession of the Gallagher shipping, financial, and security portfolios. Those in favor of Dominic Gallagher, raise your hands.”

Not a single hand went up. The capos glanced sideways at each other, intimidated not just by Declan’s presence, but by the cold, calculating look in Leo’s eyes.

“Those in favor of Leo Gallagher as sole syndication heir and master of the portfolio,” Declan continued, his voice ringing out clearly.

Twenty-four hands went up without a moment of hesitation.

Dominic slammed his fists onto the table, half-rising from his chair. “This is a sham! He’s unstable! He hides behind noise-canceling headphones! He can't even handle a crowded—!”

“Silence, Dominic,” Leo interrupted. His voice wasn't loud, but it cut through the room with a lethal, absolute authority that made every man at the table stiffen.

Leo released Tessa’s arm and stepped forward, placing both hands flat on the mahogany table as he leaned over it, glaring directly at his cousin.

“For years, I let you mistake my silence for weakness,” Leo said, every word dropping like a lead weight. “I let you believe that my need for quiet meant I wasn't listening. But while you were loud, arrogant, and careless, I memorized every financial leak, every offshore account, and every traitor in this room.”

Leo turned his gaze to the council capos, then back to his father, before finally looking down at Tessa.

“And starting today, the Gallagher empire operates on a new rhythm,” Leo declared, his voice ringing with absolute finality. “One controlled from the top down.”

Marcus Vance slid the official ratification documents across the table. Leo picked up a heavy silver fountain pen and signed his name in bold, sweeping strokes, finalizing his absolute dominion over the syndicate.

A heavy, reverent hush fell over the room as the capos stood up one by one, bowing their heads in acknowledgment of the new king.

That evening, far away from the syndicate halls, the storm over Greyhaven finally broke, leaving behind a brilliant, starry night sky reflected in the dark waters of the Atlantic.

On the private limestone balcony of the Gallagher estate, the night air was crisp and clean.

Tessa stood leaning against the stone balustrade, looking out over the ocean, a glass of sparkling cider in her hand.

Strong arms wrapped gently around her waist from behind, pulling her back against a warm, solid chest.

“You know,” Tessa murmured with a soft smile, turning her head to look up at him, “technically, I’m still a broke waitress with a fancy dress on loan.”

Leo chuckled, a rich, resonant sound of pure contentment. He rested his chin on her shoulder, his arms holding her securely against the world.

“Technically,” Leo corrected softly, “you are the woman who brought the most feared syndicate heir to his knees with four beats against her knee.”

“Is that so?” she teased, her eyes sparkling. “And what does the king of Greyhaven plan to do with me now?”

Leo turned her around in his arms, his silver-gray eyes burning with a fierce, unwavering devotion that stripped away every shadow of the past. He reached into his pocket, pulling out a small, velvet jeweler’s box.

He popped it open, revealing an extraordinary, vintage emerald-cut diamond ring that caught the starlight.

“I plan on making you my wife legally, permanently, and publicly,” Leo whispered, his voice thick with emotion. “No more fake engagements, Tessa. Only you and me, controlling every beat of our future.”

Tessa looked down at the ring, then up into the eyes of the man who had traded his silence for a kingdom—and his heart for her.

She smiled, sliding her arms around his neck.

“I’d say that deserves a four-beat rhythm,” she whispered, before pulling him down into a deep, passionate kiss beneath the stars.
