Chapter 4 - The Collapse of an Empire

Chaos erupted in the Plaza ballroom.
High-powered executives scrambled for the exit doors, only to find them blocked by tactical units holding perimeter shields. Photographers—real ones this time—flashed blinding strobes, capturing the definitive downfall of a man who had treated human beings like disposable inventory.
Two burly federal agents slammed Grant Reynolds against the polished mahogany podium, his expensive tuxedo jacket tearing at the shoulder as they wrenched his arms behind his back.
“Get your hands off me!” Grant shrieked, his voice cracking with hysterical rage, spitting flecks of saliva as he thrashed against the agents. “Charlotte! Tell them! Tell them this is a lie! You’re my wife! You belong to me!”
Charlotte didn't even look at him. She stood frozen in a pool of champagne and blood on the white marble floor, breathing through the intense wave of pain radiating through her lower back.
Commander Evelyn Vance was at her side in an instant, dropping to one knee, ignoring the silk hem of her own gown dragging in the spilled wine.
“Medic! We have an active labor in progress! Clear a path to the freight elevator now!” Evelyn barked into her shoulder radio, before gently taking Charlotte’s hand. “You did it, Charlotte. It’s over. He can never hurt you again.”
“Just… just get me to a hospital,” Charlotte breathed, beads of sweat breaking out across her forehead. “I want my baby born somewhere that doesn't smell like his money.”
As federal agents hauled a kicking, screaming Grant Reynolds toward the grand double doors in heavy steel cuffs—his face purple with humiliation, his multi-billion-dollar empire evaporating into federal indictments and asset seizures—the flashing cameras captured every single second of his disgrace.

Reynolds Vector’s stock trading was automatically halted by the SEC within three minutes of the raid. The board of directors, meeting in an emergency conference call from their respective panic rooms, unanimously voted to strip Grant of every voting share, every patent, and every title he held.
The man who thought he owned the world realized, as the steel cell doors of the federal holding facility slammed shut in his face, that he didn't even own the clothes on his back.
