PART 1 — THE KICK AT 30,000 FEET

Amara Jackson had spent fifteen years serving as a federal agent.

For the last eight months, she had lived undercover inside a violent extremist organization, risking her life every day to bring dangerous people to justice.

Now the mission was finally over.

Seven months pregnant and completely exhausted, she boarded a first-class flight home.

All she wanted was to rest.

She lowered herself carefully into her seat and placed a hand on her stomach.

Her baby girl kicked gently.

Amara smiled.

Everything was going to be okay.

Then a voice interrupted her.

"Move."

She looked up.

A tall man stood in the aisle.

Expensive suit.

Cold eyes.

Confederate flag pin attached to his jacket.

"Derek Crawford," he introduced himself with obvious arrogance.

Amara calmly pointed to her boarding pass.

"This is my assigned seat."

Derek's expression darkened.

Before anyone could react, he suddenly drove his foot forward.

His polished leather shoe slammed directly into Amara's pregnant stomach.

The impact stole her breath.

Pain exploded through her body.

Passengers gasped.

A flight attendant screamed.

Amara doubled over, clutching her belly.

But Derek simply shrugged and sat down.

"Should've moved when I told you."

The cabin fell silent.

Nobody could believe what had just happened.

Then Amara felt something warm spreading down her legs.

She looked down.

Blood.

Her heart stopped.

The baby had been moving minutes ago.

Now there was nothing.

No kick.

No movement.

No response.

A terrified flight attendant named Jessica rushed toward her.

"Oh my God!"

But through the pain, Amara's attention remained fixed on Derek.

Because he wasn't shocked.

He wasn't nervous.

He wasn't apologizing.

He looked satisfied.

Slowly, Amara reached beneath her cardigan.

Her fingers wrapped around a leather credential case.

Then she opened it.

A gold federal badge flashed under the cabin lights.

Jessica's eyes widened.

The passengers stared.

And for the first time, Derek looked genuinely surprised.

Because the pregnant woman he had just attacked wasn't helpless.

May you like

She was Special Agent Amara Jackson.

And he had just made the biggest mistake of his life.
