Chapter 5 - The Turning PointThe battle lasted through the night. By sunrise, the sounds of fighting had faded. The private security loyal to Mateo had systematically retaken the estate.

When the steel door finally opened, it wasn't one of Arthur's men. It was Enzo, bloody but alive, bowing his head. "It’s done, Boss. Arthur is in the basement."
Mateo and Genevieve walked down the stone stairs into the dark cold of the cellar. Arthur was tied to a chair, his face bruised, his arrogance replaced by a hollow, terrified look.
"You’re going to kill me?" Arthur spat.
Mateo looked at his childhood friend, the man who had been his brother. "No. Killing you would be too quick. You’re going to jail, Arthur. I have enough evidence to bury you for six lifetimes. The authorities are outside. They know exactly where to find the ledger."
Arthur looked at Genevieve. "You traitor."
"I’m just a witness who decided to testify," she said coldly.
As the police sirens grew louder, Mateo stepped toward Genevieve. They stood in the dim light of the cellar, the weight of the night settling on them.
"You’re free to go," Mateo said. "I can have my men drop you anywhere in the city."

Genevieve looked at the man who had kissed her to save her, who had protected her while his own world burned. The crime boss she had set out to destroy had become the only person she could trust.
"I’m not going anywhere," she said. "The story isn't finished yet."
