Chapter 6 - A New Dawn for the Taylors

The main auditorium of the McCormick Place was packed to its five-thousand-seat capacity. Above the stage, a massive, three-story-tall LED screen glowed with the Caldwell Enterprises logo.

The lights dimmed, and the crowd fell silent.

Richard Caldwell stepped onto the stage. He looked immaculate, his hair perfectly coiffed, wearing a dark navy suit that screamed wealth and authority. He smiled, his teeth flashing under the spotlights, and the crowd erupted in applause.

"Thank you," Richard said, his voice smooth and confident. "Ten years ago, Caldwell Enterprises set out to secure the digital world. Today, we face unprecedented threats. Cyber-attacks, data theft, corporate sabotage. But tonight, we introduce the ultimate shield."

In the parking lot, Jasmine watched the live-stream on her laptop. She looked at her triplets, who were watching with bated breath.

"It's time," Jasmine said. She hovered her mouse over the 'Execute' button. "For Sarah. For us."

She clicked the mouse.

On stage, Richard gestured to the massive screen behind him. "Ladies and gentlemen, I give you... Caldwell Aegis."

The screen flickered. But instead of the slick promotional video, the screen went completely black.

Richard paused, his smile faltering slightly. He glanced toward the production booth, gesturing for them to fix the slide. "It seems we have a minor technical glitch. But as we know in the tech world—"

The screen flared to life.

But it wasn't his software. It was a video.

It was the interior of the Grand Palmer Hotel ballroom. The audio was crystal clear.

"Of course I don't care about the brats, Evelyn. They’re baggage. Annoying, loud, useless baggage..."

The audience gasped, a wave of shock rolling through the five-thousand-seat auditorium.

"Turn it off!" Richard roared, his face turning an angry shade of purple. He turned to the production team, waving his arms. "Cut the feed! Cut the power!"

But the system was locked. Jasmine’s worm had completely bypassed the local administrator privileges.

The video on the screen changed. Now, it displayed a split-screen of document comparisons. On the left, the original, ten-year-old code signed by Dr. Sarah Jenkins. On the right, the core architecture of Caldwell Enterprises' flagship products.

A voiceover, recorded by Dr. Eleanor Simmons, began to play, explaining the theft, the hack on Lakeshore Institute of Technology, and the evidence connecting Richard to the "accident" of his former partner.

"This is a lie!" Richard screamed into his microphone, but the audio team had lost control of his mic. His voice was drowned out by the rising murmur of the crowd.

Journalists were already on their feet, their phones raised, recording the massive screen. The live-stream, which was being broadcast to over a million viewers worldwide, was flooded with comments. The stock price of Caldwell Enterprises began to plunge in real-time on a sidebar widget.

Marcus and three security guards rushed the stage, trying to shield Richard from the cameras, but it was too late. The doors of the auditorium burst open, and several agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, accompanied by Chicago Police officers, marched down the aisles.

They weren't there to arrest Jasmine. They were holding federal warrants for corporate fraud, grand larceny, and conspiracy to commit murder, backed by the unassailable metadata Eleanor and Jasmine had uploaded to the federal database minutes before.

As the handcuffs clicked around Richard’s wrists, he looked up at the camera broadcasting the feed, his eyes filled with a desperate, defeated rage. He knew exactly who had done this.

Three Months LaterThe sun rose over Lake Michigan, casting a warm, golden glow over a small, beautiful office space in downtown Chicago.

On the glass door, gold lettering read: TAYLOR SHIELD CYBERSECURITY.

Inside, the office was bright and filled with plants. Tasha sat at the front desk, happily managing a flood of client inquiries from top-tier firms begging for Jasmine’s protection services.

In the main development room, Dr. Eleanor Simmons stood next to Jasmine, looking over a series of newly approved patents.

"The court cleared everything, Jasmine," Eleanor said, a peaceful smile on her face. "Sarah’s name has been legally restored to her work, and the settlement from the Caldwell estate is enough to fund your research for the next three decades."

"We did it, Eleanor," Jasmine said, hugging her mentor. "We actually did it."

A sudden burst of giggles echoed from the hallway.

Zoe, Zach, and Zayn ran into the office. They were no longer wearing dusty wedding clothes. They were in comfortable jeans and t-shirts. Zach held a brand-new, top-of-the-line developer tablet, a gift from his mother for his "security audit" assistance.

"Mom!" Zoe said, holding up a drawing. "Look! I drew our new office! I put a giant laser defense system on the roof!"

Jasmine laughed, kneeling down to scoop her children into a massive hug. Zayn kissed her cheek, his eyes bright and free of the fear that had haunted them on her wedding day.

"No lasers on the roof, Zoe," Jasmine smiled, pulling them close. "But we have something much better."

"What?" Zayn asked.

Jasmine looked at her children—her true miracle, the only family she would ever need.

"We have our freedom," she whispered. "And nobody can ever take that away from us again."
