Chapter 6 - The New DawnSix months later, the Briar Glen estate looked completely different.

The heavy, stifling velvet drapes in the west wing had been replaced with light, airy linen. The formal gardens were filled with blooming hydrangeas and laughter. And for the first time in decades, the Blackwell mansion felt less like a museum of cold, aristocratic pride and more like a real home.

The wedding wasn't held in a grand cathedral in New York with hundreds of society snobs whispering behind cupped hands.

It was held on the sprawling lawn behind the estate, under the shade of the ancient oak trees.

Only eighty people were in attendance: Mrs. Brooks beaming proudly in the front row, Jaden looking sharp in his first tailored suit as best man, Richard Blackwell smiling warmly with a glass of champagne in his hand, and close friends who loved Lily for who she was, not what was in her bank account.

Elizabeth Blackwell was not present; she was currently facing federal indictment hearings in Manhattan for corporate fraud and embezzlement—a legal battle her high-priced defense lawyers were rapidly losing.

As the string quartet played a soft, melodic tune, Lily walked down the aisle on Jaden’s arm.

She wore a simple, breathtaking ivory silk dress that moved like water in the afternoon breeze. Her hair was half-up, adorned with a few delicate sprigs of baby's breath.

Standing at the altar under the floral archway was Ethan.

He wore a tailored navy suit, but it was his face that caught her breath—the soft, absolute adoration in his eyes as he watched her walk toward him.

When Jaden handed Lily’s hand over to Ethan, the young man whispered, "Take care of her, man."

"Always," Ethan promised softly.

They stood together before the officiant, exchanging vows they had written themselves—vows that spoke not of social status or corporate obligations, but of endurance, trust, and a love that had been forged in fire and survived the darkest winter.

"By the power vested in me," the officiant smiled, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. Ethan, you may kiss your bride."

Ethan didn't hesitate. He pulled Lily close against his chest, dipping her slightly as he pressed his lips to hers.

The applause from the garden erupted like thunder. Jaden whistled loudly, Mrs. Brooks dabbed her eyes with a lace handkerchief, and Richard raised his glass to the sky.

As Ethan pulled back, resting his forehead against hers, Lily looked out over the sunlit lawn, past the iron gates, and down the tree-lined road where her journey had begun six months ago as the supposed "maid."

She wasn't a maid anymore.

She was a survivor. She was a partner. She was a Blackwell.

And as Ethan smiled down at her, tightening his arm around her waist, Lily knew with absolute certainty that no matter what storms lay ahea.......
