Chapter 5 - The Reckoning at the Board MeetingThe emergency board meeting was scheduled for Friday afternoon at 2:00 PM in the grand conference hall on the tenth floor. The mahogany table, usually reserved for discussing budget surpluses and donor galas, sat under a heavy, suffocating cloud of tension.

Dr. Richard Weller sat at the head of the table, his suit impeccably pressed, though his skin had a gray, weathered pallor. Flanking him were six board members, all wealthy donors and corporate executives who had just spent the last twenty-four hours reading explosive exposés in the local press regarding the hospital’s systemic cover-ups.

The double doors opened, and Elena Park walked in. She wasn’t wearing scrubs today; she wore a sharp, dark navy blazer and slacks, her posture upright and commanding. Behind her walked Marcus Vance, carrying a heavy leather briefcase, with Titan waiting patiently outside under the watch of a hospital compliance officer.

“Dr. Park,” Richard greeted, his voice dripping with venomous politeness. “Thank you for attending. We called this extraordinary session to address… administrative restructuring.”

“Save your breath, Richard,” interrupted Sarah Lin, the senior board member and primary financial benefactor of the pediatric wing. She slid a thick packet of documents across the table toward him. “We’ve already reviewed the internal audit, the leaked dispatch logs, and the 4K footage provided by Mr. Vance.”

Richard’s face drained of what little color remained. “That material was obtained illegally—!”

“It was obtained by a concerned citizen witnessing a violent assault in a public-access medical facility,” Sarah cut him off sharply. “Furthermore, our legal team has confirmed that you utilized hospital endowment funds to pay off three separate civil settlements on behalf of your son over the last two years.”

The room erupted into murmurs. Board members glared across the table at the man they had trusted for a decade.

“You are stripped of your title as Hospital Director, effective immediately,” Sarah continued, reading from the formal resolution. “Your administrative credentials are suspended pending a full federal financial audit. And your son is facing three felony counts of assault, witness intimidation, and reckless endangerment.”

Richard stood up abruptly, knocking his leather chair backward onto the carpet. His eyes swept across the room with desperate fury. “You can’t do this! I built this hospital! Without my connections, this institution would go bankrupt in six months!”

“The hospital survived long before you arrived, Richard, and it will thrive long after you’re gone,” Elena said, her voice ringing clear and steady across the silent room.

Marcus stepped forward, placing a single official document onto the center of the mahogany table—a court-ordered injunction freezing all Weller family assets pending the criminal investigation.

Defeated, broken, and utterly stripped of his armor, Richard Weller gathered his leather folder with shaking hands, turned his back on the board, and walked out of the conference room without a single word.
