PART 7: A New Foundation
The police report was filed that afternoon. With the irrefutable text evidence, Brittany and Kayla were placed under investigation for grand extortion. Faced with a massive legal battle and no longer receiving a single dime from me, they were forced to take actual jobs to pay for their defense lawyers. Teresa was forced to move into a tiny, state-funded senior living apartment, completely cut off from the luxury she had stolen from my hard work.
For the first time in my life, the weight on my shoulders was gone.
Emily spent the next month in absolute peace. I took a paid leave of absence using my accrued warehouse hours. Every day, I cooked her meals, rubbed her back, and kept our apartment spotless. We talked about her grandfather’s bakery, planning how we would renovate it together using her trust fund. I would use my logistics experience to run the supply chains, and she would bake.
On a beautiful, sunny morning four weeks later, Emily’s water broke while we were watching a movie on our clean, peaceful couch.
