Chapter 6 - Healing and a New Dawn

A year had passed since the gates of the federal prison closed behind Valeria.
The air in Cabo San Lucas was warm, carrying the clean, salty scent of the Pacific Ocean. The waves crashed gently against the golden sands of a private beach, far away from the noise, the cameras, and the toxic high-society circles of Mexico City.
Ricardo stood on the wooden deck of his beach house, holding a cup of black coffee. He looked out at the shore, where a young boy was running through the surf.
Diego was barefoot, wearing loose, comfortable cotton shorts and a simple t-shirt. His skin had returned to its natural, beautiful, sun-kissed golden-brown tone. His legs, once covered in horrific, weeping wounds, were fully healed, showing only faint, silver scars that would fade with time.
But the biggest change wasn't physical.
It was the sound.
Diego was laughing. A loud, bubbly, uninhibited laugh that filled the warm air as he chased a golden retriever puppy through the shallow water.
The Triumph of LoveRicardo walked down the steps of the deck and onto the warm sand. He didn't care about his shoes getting wet; he didn't care about his phone vibrating in his pocket with notifications about international AI mergers. He had stepped down as active CEO of his firm, appointing a trusted board to run the daily operations so he could be a full-time, present father.
Hearing his father's footsteps, Diego stopped running. He turned around, his face lit up by a massive, genuine smile.
“Dad! Look!” he shouted, pointing at the puppy shaking water off its fur. “Goofy found a shell!”
“That’s amazing, champ,” Ricardo said, kneeling down on the wet sand.
Without a single moment of hesitation, without any fear, flinching, or trembling, Diego ran forward. He threw his arms around Ricardo’s neck, burying his face in his father’s shoulder.
Ricardo closed his eyes, wrapping his strong arms around his son, holding him tight. There was no pain. There was no terror. There was only the warm, solid reality of a child who knew, with absolute certainty, that he was safe, loved, and entirely whole.
“I love you, Dad,” Diego whispered.

“I love you more than life itself, my son,” Ricardo replied, kissing his hair.
They stood together on the shore as the sun began to set, painting the sky in brilliant shades of pink, orange, and gold. The nightmare was over. The scars of the past had become nothing more than a reminder of their survival, and ahead of them lay a lifetime of endless, beautiful, and unburdened days.
