Chapter 2 - The House of Cards CollapsesDawn broke over the Greenwich estate, painting the sky in pale shades of gray and gold. Inside the master bedroom, the illusion of triumph shattered violently.

Grant Huxley stared at his glowing smartphone screen in paralyzed disbelief. Account frozen. Line of credit suspended. Corporate card declined. Even the leasing company for his silver luxury SUV had automatically revoked authorization due to an automated default flag triggered by the Phoenix protocol.

Next to him, Vanessa stirred under the silk sheets embroidered with Vivian’s initials, stretching luxuriously before noticing Grant’s ashen complexion.

"Grant, darling? What's wrong? You look like you've seen a ghost," Vanessa purred, leaning over to kiss his shoulder.

"My accounts," Grant whispered, his voice trembling as he tapped frantically against the screen. "They're locked. All of them. The foundation, my personal reserves, the discretionary holdings... it says 'Unauthorized Asset Custody Transfer Pending Audit'."

Before Vanessa could process the magnitude of his words, the bedroom door flew open. Standing in the doorway was Marcus Vance, Meridian Capital’s senior compliance director, looking frantic and disheveled. He didn't even knock.

"Mr. Huxley! Thank God you're awake," Marcus gasped, his eyes wide. "We have a catastrophic system lockdown. Every single corporate account has been sequestered by a master override code. Federal regulators are already flagging our offshore accounts. And... and Mr. Huxley, the board has received an emergency directive from the primary founder."

Grant scrambled out of bed, pulling a robe around his waist, his face twisting in fury and panic. "Who authorized an override?! I am the CEO! Contact Vivian immediately; she must have clicked something by mistake—"

"Sir, you don't understand," Marcus interrupted, his voice dropping to a harsh whisper. "The primary founder... the sole legal entity holding the master cryptographic keys... is Vivian. Not you. Her name is on every foundational patent, every primary equity block, and every restructuring agreement since the firm's inception. You were never the owner, Mr. Huxley. You were merely an employee with a fancy title."

The room spun around Grant. He grabbed his phone and dialed Vivian’s number directly.

It went straight to voicemail.

Vanessa scrambled out of bed, clutching the sheet around her chest, her voice rising in shrill panic. "What do you mean she's the owner?! We spent years building this! Call her lawyers! Sue her!"

Grant stood frozen in the middle of the room, looking down at his phone as it buzzed violently with a new text message. He opened it with a shaking thumb. It was a single photo taken from a security camera feed: Vivian sitting calmly in her downtown office, framed by glowing monitors, looking down at her phone with absolute, unbothered detachment.

Beneath the photo was a text: Check your lease, Grant. You have twelve hours to pack.
