Chapter 3 - The Boardroom AmbushBy noon, the glass-walled executive boardroom on the fortieth floor of Meridian Capital’s downtown tower hummed with nervous tension. Five members of the board of directors sat in dead silence around the polished mahogany table, their tablets glowing with frozen asset reports and alarming forensic summaries.

The heavy double doors swung open, and Grant walked in. He looked completely unhinged. His designer suit was wrinkled, his hair uncombed, and his usual charismatic swagger replaced by a desperate, sweaty panic.
"What is the meaning of this circus?!" Grant shouted, slamming his hand onto the table. "Some technical glitch has locked my accounts, and people are running around screaming like the sky is falling! Where is Vivian? Why hasn't she fixed this?!"
None of the board members looked up. Finally, Arthur Pendelton, the senior board chairman and an old-guard investor who had backed Vivian from day one, cleared his throat and gestured to the empty seat at the head of the table—the seat reserved for the majority controlling partner.
"Sit down, Grant," Arthur said coldly, his voice devoid of its usual warmth.
"I won't sit down! I demand to know—"
"Sit down, Mr. Huxley," a calm, collected voice echoed from the doorway.
The entire room turned.
Vivian walked into the boardroom. She wore a sharp, charcoal-gray tailored pantsuit. A faint, pale bruise near her left temple was expertly concealed beneath professional makeup, but her posture was rigid, powerful, and absolute. She carried no notes, no folders, and no hesitation. She walked straight to the head of the table, pulled out the high-backed leather chair, and sat down.
Grant stared at her as if she were a specter. "Vivian... what is this? What have you done to the accounts? The board needs to vote on this—you can't just lock down the company because you're throwing a domestic tantrum over last night!"
Vivian looked at him not with anger, but with the cold, scientific curiosity one might reserve for a specimen under a microscope.
"A domestic tantrum, Grant?" Vivian's voice cut through the silent room like a razor blade. "Let’s review the actual numbers. Over the past three years, your 'visionary leadership' has resulted in four failed speculative investments totaling twelve million dollars—funds you siphoned from client retention reserves to cover your personal lifestyle and fund Vanessa’s boutique investments."
Grant’s face turned the color of ash. "That’s a lie! I have executive discretion—"
"Under Section 14, Paragraph C of the corporate charter," Vivian continued smoothly, sliding a thin document across the mahogany table toward Arthur, "any executive found utilizing corporate assets for illicit personal enrichment or compromising fiduciary integrity faces immediate, irrevocable termination for cause, accompanied by total forfeiture of equity options."
Arthur glanced over the document, his expression turning grim as he slid it to the other board members. He looked up at Grant with undisguised disgust.
"The forensic audit is bulletproof, Grant," Arthur said quietly. "Every single transaction has been mapped. You didn't build this firm. You bled it."
Grant staggered backward, his hands gripping the edge of a chair to keep from collapsing. He looked around the room, desperately searching for a friendly face, but found only cold, averted eyes.
"You can't do this to me," Grant whispered, his voice cracking into a pathetic whine. "I am your husband! We are partners!"
May you like
Vivian stood up slowly, leaning forward over the table, her eyes locking onto his with terrifying clarity.
"We were never partners, Grant. You were a parasite wearing a tailored suit. And the host has just rejected you."
