Chapter 4 - The Legal Battle and Gaslighting

Clara confronted David with the evidence, laying the medical records of his dead brother and the school district lawsuit on the dining room table.
"Look at this, David!" Clara pleaded. "Your mother killed your brother Julian! She did the exact same thing to him, and now she’s doing it to Lily so she can play the doting grandmother recovering from surgery while taking care of a 'sick' grandchild!"
David looked at the documents, his hands trembling. But the psychological trauma of accepting that his mother was a monster was too much for his mind to bear. He snapped.
"This is a witch hunt!" David yelled, throwing the papers across the room. "You’ve hated my mother from the day we got married! You fabricated this! You’re trying to isolate me from my family!"
The next morning, Clara received a legal summons. David, advised and funded secretly by Margaret, had filed for legal separation and temporary sole custody of Lily, claiming that Clara was suffering from severe paranoia, postpartum psychosis, and was alienating the child from her family.

Margaret’s plan was working perfectly. By gaslighting David and using his emotional vulnerability, she was on the verge of stripping Clara of her maternal rights, ensuring Lily would be placed directly back into her toxic orbit.
Clara was isolated. Her husband had abandoned her, her mother-in-law had unlimited financial resources, and the court date was set for the following week. But Clara possessed something Margaret never anticipated: an unyielding, fierce maternal love that refused to be defeated.
