Chapter 5 - The Trap is Sprung

The emergency custody and corporate injunction hearing was held in a closed-door courtroom in downtown Chicago. Rachel arrived flanked by a team of high-powered attorneys, wearing a conservative black dress, acting the part of the victim. Marcus Vance sat in the back row of the gallery, maintaining a smug, detached expression of corporate neutrality.
Rachel's attorney took the podium first, presenting fabricated character statements and demanding that Michael be stripped of custody of both children and removed from Bennett Logistics. "My client has suffered under the tyrannical control of a man who values billions over human life," the lawyer argued passionately.
When it was Michael’s turn, he didn't read a statement. He didn't let his lawyer argue. Instead, he submitted three pieces of evidence directly to the judge.
First was the unedited, high-definition audio recording from the smart-home intercom system located in the kitchen—data Rachel didn't know Michael had backed up to a secure off-site server.
The courtroom filled with the sound of Rachel’s true voice: "You will carry him, Lily! If you drop him or if you stop cleaning, I will make sure your father never comes back to this house. You are nothing but a burden to him." Then, the sound of Lily’s quiet, heartbreaking whimpers as she struggled under the weight.
Rachel’s smug expression dissolved into pure horror. She looked at Marcus Vance, but Marcus immediately looked away, realizing the ship was sinking.

The second piece of evidence was the comprehensive forensic financial report showing the direct line of communication and monetary transactions between Rachel and Marcus Vance, proving a coordinated conspiracy to commit child endangerment, extortion, and corporate fraud.
The judge’s face turned into a mask of pure indignation. She slammed her gavel down so hard the sound echoed like a gunshot.
