Chapter 3 - The Unmasking and the Hammer

The silence in the grand ballroom was so profound that you could hear the soft hum of the air conditioning.
Brandon stumbled forward another step, reaching out a hand toward me. "Emma... baby, please! Listen to me! I didn't know! If I had known who your father was—"
"If you had known?" my father interrupted, stepping directly between Brandon and me like an impenetrable wall. "If you had known she was worth billions, you would have protected her? But because you thought she was an ordinary working woman, you allowed your family to tear her dress, pour wine over her, and strike her?"
"No, sir! Mr. Harrison, please!" Brandon fell to his knees right there on the marble floor, completely uncaring of how pathetic he looked in front of 200 of his family's business associates. "I love her! I swear I love her! I was just in shock! I was going to defend her!"
"You stood there for twenty minutes without saying a single word," I said, looking down at him with cold detachment. "You watched your mother slap me. You watched your daughter tear my dress. You watched your sister stream my humiliation to millions of people online. You didn't love me, Brandon. You loved the idea of a quiet girl you could control."
I reached into the pocket of my torn dress and pulled out the simple silver promise ring Brandon had given me six months ago. I tossed it onto the floor. It rolled across the marble, bouncing softly against his knee.
"We are done," I said.
Clarissa finally regained her speech, dropping to her knees beside her son, grabbing her husband’s sleeve hysterically.
"Mr. Harrison! Please!" Clarissa wailed, her arrogant posture completely destroyed. "It was a misunderstanding! A terrible, awful mistake! We thought... we thought she was a gold digger trying to ruin our son! We were just protecting our family!"
William Harrison didn't blink. He looked down at Howard.
"Howard," my father commanded. "Execute Protocol Alpha immediately."
"Already in motion, sir," Howard replied smoothly, tapping the glass screen of his encrypted tablet.
Kenneth Hayes gasped, his phone suddenly buzzing violently in his jacket pocket. He pulled it out with trembling hands. His face went from pale to completely translucent.
"W-What is this?" Kenneth gasped, staring at his screen. "Mr. Harrison... our corporate credit lines... canceled? Our construction permits for the Downtown Tower... revoked?"
"Hayes Real Estate operates entirely on subcontracts and financing provided by my subsidiaries," William said, his voice icy and merciless. "As of thirty seconds ago, Harrison Global has terminated every single contract, loan, and business partnership with Hayes Real Estate."
"No!" Kenneth screamed, dropping his phone. "That's sixty percent of our revenue! We'll be bankrupt by Tuesday!"
"You should have taught your wife and children how to treat human beings," William replied coldly.
Howard stepped forward, raising his voice so the entire ballroom—and the millions still watching on live streams—could hear every word.
"Furthermore," Howard announced, "Harrison Global Legal has already filed criminal charges against Mrs. Clarissa Hayes for Felony Assault and Battery, as well as Corruption of a Minor for instructing an eight-year-old child to commit destruction of property."
Natasha squeaked in terror, dropping her phone. "W-What about me? I didn't do anything!"
"Miss Natasha Hayes," Howard continued calmly, "you streamed a recorded assault of a minor and a private citizen without consent across global platforms. We have already served emergency subpoenas to TikTok and Instagram. Your personal accounts are frozen, and civil lawsuits for defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress seeking $50 million in damages have just been filed against you personally."
"Fifty million?!" Natasha shrieked, collapsing against her cousin Jessica, who was trying frantically to hide behind a decorative palm tree.
"And finally," Howard added, looking at the entire crowd of 200 high-society guests who were still holding their breath, "anyone in this room who uploaded, shared, or liked the live stream of Miss Harrison's assault will find their business relationships with Harrison Global systematically reviewed by sunrise."
Within three seconds, a chorus of frantic clicking sounds filled the room as every single guest frantically deleted their videos, wiped their social media posts, and tucked their phones away in sheer terror.
William wrapped his arm securely around me, turning his back on the begging, crying, ruined Hayes family.
"Come, Emma," my father said softly, his tone completely transforming into warmth as he looked at me. "Let's go home. Howard has your favorite dinner waiting on the jet."
As my father escorted me out toward the rooftop helipad, I looked back one last time.

Clarissa was sitting on the floor weeping hysterically, her expensive purple gown ruined by spilled wine. Kenneth was staring into space, completely ruined. Brandon was sobbing on his knees, clutching the cheap silver ring I had left behind.
The helicopter doors opened, and as we lifted off into the starry night sky over the city, I felt the heavy weight of humiliation lift from my heart, replaced by the sweet, undeniable taste of justice.
