Chapter 2 - The Erased EmpireBy 8:00 AM the following morning, the financial foundation of Whitmore Logistics was shaking violently.

I sat at the mahogany dining table in my own home, a cup of black coffee steaming beside my laptop. Emily was resting upstairs, her fever finally breaking under the care of a private physician, her long brown hair unevenly trimmed on one side where Margaret had started her sadistic ritual.
My phone rang. Caller ID: Harrison Whitmore – CEO of Whitmore Logistics.
I let it ring three times before swiping to answer.
“Daniel,” Harrison’s voice came across the line, dripping with forced composure and thinly veiled panic. “We need to talk. Evan told me about... a misunderstanding last night. Surely we can resolve this like civilised men before lawyers get involved.”
“There’s nothing to resolve, Harrison,” I said evenly.
“Now, listen here,” Harrison’s tone hardened. “My family name carries weight in this state. If you think you can walk in here, assault my son, and threaten my wife with some fabricated footage, you’re gravely mistaken. Whitmore Logistics is currently securing a major municipal infrastructure contract. We don't have time for petty domestic drama.”
“You don't have time because your company is already insolvent,” I replied calmly.
Silence stretched across the line.
“What did you say?” Harrison whispered.
“For the past six months, I’ve been leading an inter-agency federal task force auditing mid-tier logistics contractors bidding on state transit funds,” I said, watching the live data feed on my screen. “Your son-in-law—my dear, wonderful son-in-law Evan—has been systematically embezzling subsidiary funds to cover his gambling debts, routing them through offshore shell companies in the Caymans.”
Harrison’s breath hitched. “That’s... that’s a lie. You’re retaliating!”
“The dossier was transferred to the federal prosecutor’s desk at 7:45 AM,” I continued. “Along with the video files from your mansion's security system documenting felony assault and battery against my daughter. By noon, your corporate accounts will be frozen, your business licenses suspended, and your son will be facing federal indictment.”
“Daniel, wait—!” Harrison cried out.

I hung up.
The line went dead. Just like Emily’s phone call had gone dead the night before.
