Chapter 3 - The SanctuaryTwo days later, the morning sun poured through the wide bay windows of my living room, illuminating the quiet peace that had finally returned to our home.

Emily sat wrapped in a plush blanket on the sofa, sipping hot tea. Her split lip was healing, and though her hair was cut short on the right side where the shears had bitten into her locks, she looked lighter—as if a massive, suffocating weight had been lifted from her soul.
A soft knock sounded at the front door.
I opened it to find a professional hair stylist standing on the porch, holding a sleek leather case, accompanied by a senior legal counselor from my former department.
“Mr. Callahan,” the stylist smiled warmly. “Miss Emily requested a fresh start. Word came down from your office that I needed to make house calls today.”
“Come right in,” I stepped aside, welcoming them into the house.
For the next two hours, the living room transformed into a place of gentle restoration. The stylist carefully evened out Emily’s hair into a sharp, elegant modern bob that completely removed every trace of the violence Margaret had tried to inflict upon her.
As the stylist packed up her equipment and left, Emily walked over to the full-length mirror in the hallway. She turned her head from side to side, running her fingers through her hair, a genuine, radiant smile touching her lips for the first time in years.
“Dad,” she whispered, her eyes shining with unshed tears as she turned to look at me. “I look like... myself again.”
“You never stopped being yourself, Em,” I said softly, wrapping my arms gently around her shoulders. “You just forgot how strong you were under all their noise.”
Just then, my secure laptop chimed from the study.

I walked over to check the console. A high-priority legal alert flashed across the screen: Whitmore Logistics assets seized. Federal arrest warrants issued for Evan and Margaret Whitmore.
The game was over.
