Part 5: The Final Confrontation

The night before the official transfer, Evelyn and Connor came to my office.
Evelyn begged. Connor threatened. Then he cried.
I remained calm, hand on my belly.
"You did this to yourselves," I said. "Every time you humiliated me. Every time you laughed. Every time you treated me like I was nothing."
My daughter kicked strongly as if agreeing.
