Chapter 2 - The Resurrected Empire

The door of the black Armored Suburban clicked open the moment my bare, muddy feet hit the pavement.
A hand reached out—strong, calloused, wearing the familiar platinum signet ring engraved with the Albright family crest. I lunged forward, throwing my wet arms around my father’s neck as I collapsed onto the heated leather seats inside the dry, luxury cabin.
"I've got you, Clara," Ross murmured, wrapping a thick wool blanket around my shoulders while a private physician sitting in the third row immediately leaned forward with antiseptic wipes and medical gauze to tend to the wound on my forehead. "I'm so sorry I had to let you endure those three days of grief. But Gavin needed to believe his triumph was absolute."
"He was laughing at me, Dad," I whispered, the numbness in my chest giving way to a blazing, incandescent rage. "He told me he spent four years pretending to love me just to take Summit Enterprises. Celina struck me and stole Mom’s pearl necklace off her own neck."
Ross’s eyes narrowed into slits of hardened steel. "They will return every penny, every jewel, and every breath of pride they stole from this family. Dr. Aris, make sure my daughter’s wound is dressed."
"Right away, Mr. Albright," the physician said, expertly applying three butterfly stitches to my forehead.
Ross gestured toward the velvet box resting on the console between us. He opened it, revealing a sleek, military-grade encrypted tablet, a platinum black card issued directly by the Swiss Private Reserve, and a set of keys.
"Open the envelope I gave you, Clara," Ross said quietly.
With trembling hands, I broke the heavy red wax seal and pulled out the crisp, gold-embossed parchment inside.
It wasn't a bank transfer or a simple power of attorney. It was the charter for The Vanguard Covenant—a secret, off-shore holding firm holding $5 billion in liquid assets, fifty-one percent voting control of Summit Enterprises’ international subsidiaries, and title deeds to every piece of real estate Gavin believed he had just acquired.
"Gavin signed those forged transfer documents thinking he was seizing control of Summit Enterprises USA," Ross explained, a cold, satisfaction evident in his tone. "What he doesn't know is that twenty-four hours before my 'accident,' I executed an international corporate restructuring. Summit USA is merely an empty shell company saddled with four hundred million dollars in bad debt. The actual assets, patents, and cash reserves were transferred directly under The Vanguard Covenant—which is registered 100% under your name, Clara."
I looked up at my father, the realization dawning on me like a lightning strike.

"Gavin didn't steal a three-billion-dollar company," I realized, a dark smile finally touching my lips. "He just inherited four hundred million dollars in unpayable debt."
"And tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM," Ross added, resting his hand over mine, "the Board of Directors of Summit Enterprises is holding an emergency meeting to confirm Gavin as the new Chief Executive Officer. You are going to walk into that boardroom, my dear... and deliver his execution."
