PART 3 – THE HIDDEN BOOKS

Claire spent most of the night reading financial reports.
Every page revealed another inconsistency.
Transfers disguised as consulting fees.
Invoices issued to companies that existed only on paper.
Corporate funds quietly redirected into personal accounts.
By dawn, one thing had become clear.
Evan's gambling debts were only the surface of a much larger scheme.
Naomi closed the final folder.
"This has been happening for at least five years."
Claire looked up.
"Before I even met Daniel."
Naomi nodded.
"Much earlier."
Claire leaned back in her chair.
"Then Daniel may not have started this."
"No."
"But the question is whether he knew."
Across town, Hale Construction was falling apart.
Employees arrived to find government auditors walking through the building.
Computers were being copied.
Financial records were boxed and labeled.
Richard Hale stormed into the accounting department.
"Who authorized this?"
An auditor calmly showed his identification.
"We received multiple reports concerning possible financial misconduct."
Richard's face darkened.
"This is harassment."
"We're simply following the evidence."
Daniel stood silently behind his father.
For the first time, he noticed several accountants refusing to make eye contact.
Something was very wrong.
Later that morning, Daniel found the company's chief accountant packing her belongings.
"Linda."
She looked up nervously.
"I'm resigning."
"Why?"
"I warned your father years ago."
"About what?"
She hesitated.
"The money."
Daniel frowned.
"What money?"
She lowered her voice.
"Every time Evan lost at gambling, your father used company accounts to cover the debts."
Daniel's face turned pale.
"That's impossible."
"I wish it were."
She handed him a flash drive.
"I made copies of everything."
"Why are you giving this to me?"
"Because someone in your family should finally tell the truth."
Daniel drove home in silence.
His hands tightened around the steering wheel.
He remembered every conversation with his father about "temporary cash flow problems."
Every loan.
Every excuse.
Had it all been a lie?
When he entered the mansion, he found Richard and Vivian arguing.
"You promised nobody would find out!" Vivian shouted.
"They weren't supposed to!"
Daniel stopped in the doorway.
"What wasn't supposed to happen?"
The room became silent.
Richard slowly turned.
"You heard that?"
Daniel held up the flash drive.
"I know about the money."
Richard's shoulders slumped.
"I did what I had to do."
"You stole from your own company?"
"I saved the family."
"No," Daniel said quietly.
"You destroyed it."
Meanwhile, Claire met with the board of Bennett Development.
"The investigation involving Hale Construction is expanding," Naomi reported.
"Regulators have requested financial records from three banks."
One director looked concerned.
"Will this affect us?"
Claire shook her head.
"Our companies have never shared accounts."
Another director asked,
"What if the Hale family accuses us of causing this?"
Claire answered calmly.
"The truth doesn't need help."
That afternoon, Richard Hale requested a private meeting with Claire.
Against Naomi's advice, she agreed.
The meeting took place in a conference room at a downtown law office.
Richard looked exhausted.
He had aged years in just a few days.
"I came to ask for mercy."
Claire remained silent.
"My company employs hundreds of people."
"I know."
"If it collapses..."
"The employees aren't responsible."
Richard nodded.
"Then help save it."
Claire looked directly at him.
"I will help the employees."
She paused.
"But I won't protect the people who broke the law."
Richard lowered his head.
"I never imagined my family would lose everything."
Claire's voice softened slightly.
"Neither did I."
As Richard left the building, federal investigators approached him in the lobby.
"Mr. Hale?"
"Yes."
"We have additional questions regarding several financial transactions."
Reporters immediately noticed the scene.
Cameras flashed.
Within minutes, images of Richard leaving with investigators spread across every news channel.
That evening, Daniel knocked on Claire's office door.
Naomi stepped in front of him.
"She doesn't have to see you."
"I know."
He looked exhausted.
"I only want five minutes."
Claire thought for a moment before nodding.
Daniel entered slowly.
He looked around the office.
"This is where you've worked all these years?"
"Yes."
"I never came here."
"No."
"You never asked."
Daniel looked down.
"I believed everything my parents told me."
Claire folded her hands.
"That I married beneath my social status?"
He nodded.
"I was wrong."
"You were."
Silence filled the room.
Finally, Daniel spoke again.
"I found evidence against my father."
Claire looked at him carefully.
"I brought it to you."
He placed the flash drive on her desk.
"I'm not asking you to hide it."
"I won't."
"I know."
He gave a sad smile.
"For the first time in my life... I'm choosing what's right instead of what's easy."
Claire studied him for several seconds.
Then she picked up the drive.
"If this contains evidence of crimes, I'll turn it over to the authorities."
"You should."
As Daniel walked toward the door, he stopped.
"I loved you."
Claire's expression remained calm.
"I believe you."
"But love without respect eventually becomes control."
Daniel closed his eyes.
"I understand that now."
He left without looking back.
The next morning, the forensic accountants finished reviewing the flash drive.
Naomi entered Claire's office carrying a thick report.
"It's even worse than we expected."
Claire looked up.
"What did you find?"
Naomi placed the report on the desk.
"There wasn't just financial fraud."
She took a slow breath.
"We found proof that someone forged your signature on several documents shortly before the wedding."
Claire frowned.
"What documents?"
"Loan guarantees."
Her eyes widened.
"If I had signed those..."
"You would have become personally responsible for over forty million dollars in Hale Construction's debt."
Claire slowly closed the folder.
Someone hadn't just wanted her money.
They had planned to make her pay for the collapse of the Hale family's empire.
May you like
And according to the forged documents...
The plan had been ready long before Daniel ever placed a ring on her finger.
