Chapter 6 - The Lake House LegacyBy late summer, Lake Crestview was peaceful again.

The Vance mansion was demolished down to its foundation under my orders. We used the reclaimed stone to build a beautiful, wide seawall along the lake, protecting the shoreline fish sanctuary that my father had loved so much.
Where Valerie’s towering mansion once blocked our view, there was now a sprawling, beautiful green lawn sloping gently down to the water's edge.
In place of my ruined blue Chevrolet sat a brand-new, charcoal-grey hybrid SUV parked in a freshly paved asphalt driveway—built well within our fully verified property lines.
The old wooden cottage had been completely restored. The peeling paint was replaced with crisp sky-blue siding, the sagging porch was rebuilt with sturdy cedar beams, and a new garage stood proudly beside the house.
On a cool August evening, Olivia and I sat on our new front porch swings, watching the sun dip low over the lake, casting long ribbons of crimson and gold across the quiet water.
"Mom," Olivia said, sipping a glass of homemade lemonade, "the lake looks really pretty from here."
"It really does, sweetie," I smiled, wrapping my arm around her shoulders. "And nobody can ever block our view again."
May you like
Olivia giggled, taking a bite of a cookie. "Especially not with concrete."
We sat together in the calm silence, listening to the gentle lap of the water against our new seawall, knowing that we were finally home, safe, and secure in the legacy my father had left for us.
