Chapter 6 - A Crown of Health and a New DawnSix months later, the DeLuca estate looked entirely transformed.

The cold, intimidating gloom that had once hung over the grounds was completely gone, replaced by the warm, vibrant hum of genuine life. Sunlight poured through the tall arched windows of the east wing, flooding Lucas’s bedroom with golden light.

The medical monitors, IV stands, and clinical equipment were long gone. In their place stood a brightly painted wooden playhouse, stacks of comic books, and a massive collection of stuffed animals.

Sitting up in the center of a freshly made bed, laughing brightly as he tossed a red rubber ball back and forth, was six-year-old Lucas. His cheeks were flushed with healthy color, his skin glowed with vitality, and his eyes shone with a brilliant, energetic spark. The mysterious wasting illness was nothing more than a fading memory, eradicated by clean nutrition, proper medical intervention, and the miraculous intervention of a three-year-old detective.

Sitting on the rug nearby, building an elaborate castle out of wooden blocks alongside Lucas, was Emma.

From the doorway of the bedroom, leaning casually against the wooden frame with a cup of coffee in his hand, stood Lorenzo. He wore a soft charcoal-gray cashmere sweater instead of his usual tactical black suits, looking relaxed, grounded, and profoundly at peace in a way he hadn't been in over six years.

Sophia walked down the hallway carrying a fresh tray of sliced fruit and juice for the children. As she approached the doorway, Lorenzo stepped aside to let her pass, his hand gently brushing against the small of her back—a warm, deliberate touch that sent a pleasant, electric shiver straight up her spine.

Sophia paused inside the room, setting the tray down on the low table as Lucas and Emma cheered happily for the snacks. She turned around to face Lorenzo, who was watching her with a deep, unwavering warmth in his dark eyes.

“They look happy,” Sophia whispered softly, a gentle smile gracing her lips.

“They are,” Lorenzo replied, his voice rich and low. He reached out, gently tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear, his fingers lingering softly against her cheekbone. “And so am I.”

Sophia’s heart fluttered, a warm blush rising across her cheeks. In the months since Vivian’s exposure and banishment, Lorenzo had quietly, persistently rewritten the dynamics of the estate. Sophia was no longer just a live-in housekeeper; she was his trusted partner, his confidante, and the quiet anchor of his life.

Across the room, Lucas grabbed a juice box, stood up steadily on his own two feet without a hint of tremor, and walked over to where they stood. He looked up at Lorenzo, then at Sophia, and then reached out, grabbing both of their hands to pull them closer together into a clumsy, joyful group hug.

Emma scrambled up from her block castle, waddling over to join the embrace, holding her yellow plush duck high in the air like a tiny victory flag.

Lorenzo wrapped his strong arms securely around Sophia and the children, pulling them close against his chest. The dark world of syndicate wars, betrayal, and poison was forever locked behind them. Ahead lay a future built not on fear and shadows, but on loyalty, healing, and an unbreakable love that had started when a broke widow’s toddler decided to break the rules to save a dying boy.
