PART 4: The Boardroom Showdown

By 9:30 a.m., the top-floor boardroom of the Mercer Tower was suffocatingly tense. The mahogany table was surrounded by panicked board members, legal advisors, and federal agents in dark suits.

Vivian sat at the far end of the table. Her expensive silver dress from yesterday was gone, replaced by a wrinkled blouse. Her hair was messy, and the smug triumph she possessed at our wedding had vanished, replaced by a frantic, cornered panic. Her high-priced corporate lawyer stood next to her, looking sweat-drenched.

"This is an outrage!" Vivian shrieked as Ethan and I walked into the room. "Ethan, tell these people who I am! I am a Mercer! I built this foundation! This is a conspiracy set up by that... that bald fraud you married!"

The room went completely silent as I walked to the head of the table. I wasn't wearing a wig today either. I wore a sharp, tailored black blazer, my bare head a symbol of my survival and my truth. I opened my laptop and plugged it into the boardroom projector.

"Mrs. Mercer, your name might be Mercer, but the money belongs to the public," I said calmly, hitting a key on my keyboard.

A massive spreadsheet flashed onto the screen, detailing a complex web of financial deceit. "Over the last five years, you have embezzled exactly $14.2 million from the Mercer Cancer Foundation. You used a shell company named 'Silver Lining Holdings' to buy luxury villas in Europe. You thought you deleted the digital audit trails, but you forgot that every blockchain transaction leaves a public ledger footprint."

"You're lying!" Vivian screamed, slamming her hands on the table. "You fabricated this to get back at me for yesterday!"

The lead FBI agent stepped forward, pulling a pair of steel handcuffs from his belt. "Actually, Mrs. Mercer, our cyber division verified Mrs. Mercer's data three hours ago. The signatures and the IP addresses match your private computer at your estate. You are under arrest for grand larceny, wire fraud, and tax evasion."

As the cuffs clicked around her wrists, Vivian looked at Ethan, her eyes wide with desperate pleading. "Ethan! Son! Don't let them do this to me! I did it for us! To protect your inheritance from her!"

Ethan looked at his mother, his expression completely blank. "You didn't do this for me, Mom. You did it for yourself. And yesterday, you showed the world exactly who you are. Don't call me your son again."
