Chapter 6 - A Future Written in LightEighteen months later, the sun shone brightly over the lush gardens of Moretti Manor.

The high stone walls still stood, but the atmosphere within them had completely transformed. The gloomy, silent estate was now vibrant with life, laughter, and color. Rosebushes bloomed along the stone pathways, and the sound of children’s laughter echoed across the manicured lawns.

Near the grand fountain, two-year-old Leo, dressed in a tiny navy suit and matching bow tie, was happily chasing a golden retriever puppy across the grass, his loud chuckles filling the warm summer air.

On the stone terrace overlooking the garden, a small gathering of friends, staff, and reformed allies had assembled. Mrs. Doyle stood nearby, wiping tears of joy from her eyes, while Dante—now looking far more relaxed in a tailored gray suit—stood near the archway, keeping a watchful, affectionate eye on young Leo.

Inside the garden pavilion, framed by arches of white hydrangeas and silk drapes, stood Gabriel Moretti.

He wore a bespoke black tuxedo, his dark hair neatly styled, the silver at his temples catching the bright sunlight. His posture was commanding, but his face carried a look of profound, serene peace.

The string quartet began to play a soft, romantic melody.

Gabriel looked up, and his breath caught in his throat.

Walking down the aisle toward him was Norah. She looked breathtaking in an off-the-shoulder gown of ivory silk, a delicate lace veil pinned into her dark, sweeping curls. Her curvy frame was celebrated by the elegant design, and her face radiated a beauty that came from deep within—a beauty born of love, safety, and joy.

In her hands, she carried a bouquet of white peonies and soft pink roses.

When she reached the altar, Gabriel stepped forward, taking her hand into his. His grip was warm, strong, and steady.

"You are the most beautiful vision I have ever seen," Gabriel whispered, his voice thick with emotion.

Norah smiled, her eyes glistening with happy tears. "And you are my whole world, Gabriel."

The priest stepped forward, his voice echoing warmly over the gathered guests.

"We are gathered here today to unite Gabriel Moretti and Norah Bennett in holy matrimony. A union born not of circumstance, but of courage, devotion, and a love that has triumphed over darkness."

As the vows were exchanged, Gabriel pulled a velvet box from his pocket, revealing a stunning ring featuring a glowing, flawless canary diamond surrounded by delicate platinum bands.

He slipped the ring onto Norah’s finger, looking deeply into her eyes.

"Norah," Gabriel said, his voice ringing loud and clear for all to hear. "I promise to honor you, to protect you, and to love you through every season of our lives. I promise to be a father to Leo, to guide him with strength and wisdom, and to build a life for our family that is defined by light, peace, and honor."

Norah slipped a matching platinum band onto Gabriel’s finger, her hand steady.

"Gabriel," she said, her voice filled with unwavering devotion. "You took me in when I was broken, and you showed me what true strength looks like. I promise to love you, to stand beside you as your partner and your equal, and to fill your life with all the warmth and joy you deserve. You are my home, my husband, and my love."

"By the power vested in me," the priest announced with a bright smile, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride!"

Gabriel pulled Norah into his arms, dipping her slightly as he pressed his lips to hers in a passionate, loving kiss that drew loud cheers and applause from everyone present.

Leo ran up to the altar, babbling excitedly and pulling at Gabriel’s trouser leg. Gabriel laughed, scooping his adopted son up into his arm while keeping his other arm tightly wrapped around Norah’s waist.

Together, the three of them turned to face their guests—not as a mob boss and his collateral, but as a family bound by an unbreakable love.

Later that evening, as the sun set over Lake Michigan, casting a golden glow across the estate, Gabriel and Norah stood together on the private balcony of their master suite. Leo was fast asleep in his nearby nursery, peaceful and secure.

Norah leaned her back against Gabriel’s chest, feeling his steady heartbeat beneath his shirt. He wrapped his arms around her, rest his chin gently on her shoulder, both of them watching the stars begin to twinkle in the twilight sky.

"What are you thinking about, my love?" Gabriel asked softly, kissing the side of her neck.

Norah smiled, placing her hands over his. "I was thinking about that freezing morning in Pilsen. I thought my life was over. I thought the world was taking everything from me."

Gabriel squeezed her tightly against him. "And now?"

May you like

Norah turned in his arms, looking up into the eyes of the man who had changed her destiny forever.

"Now," Norah whispered, leaning up to kiss his cheek, "I know that sometimes, the dark nights are just preparing us for the brightest dawns."
