Chapter 6 - The Wedding of the Waterfront and the New EmpireThree months later, the autumn chill had given way to a brilliant, sun-drenched spring afternoon along the Hudson River.

The historic Conti estate in upstate New York—the very estate Victor Vance had stolen and Lorenzo had rightfully reclaimed—was bathed in sunlight, surrounded by thousands of blooming white roses and green ivy.
There were no tabloid cameras, no corrupt art dealers, and no syndicate rivals. Only trusted allies, close friends, and a small gathering of family watched as the wedding of the year took place beneath a grand wrought-iron gazebo overlooking the river.
Isabella stood at the altar wearing a breathtaking, custom-designed ivory lace gown that shimmered in the sunlight. On her left ring finger, the antique green emerald ring caught the light like a beacon of triumph.
As she walked down the stone aisle, the string quartet played a soft, classical Venetian melody—a subtle nod to the night their paths had first crossed over a fake painting.
Waiting for her at the altar was Lorenzo. He wore a crisp, tailored navy suit, his dark hair neatly combed, the scar over his brow softened by a profound, unmistakable expression of pure, unadulterated happiness.
When she reached him, Lorenzo took her hands in his, pressing a warm kiss against her knuckles.
“You look magnificent, mia bella,” he whispered.
“You clean up nicely yourself, Mr. Conti,” Isabella smiled, her eyes shining with unshed tears of joy.
The minister began the ceremony, but neither of them needed a script. When the time came for the vows, Lorenzo slipped the heavy gold band onto her finger, his dark eyes locking onto hers with absolute, eternal finality.
“I promise to stand by your side through every storm, to protect everything you hold dear, and to spend the rest of my life making sure you never have to fight alone,” Lorenzo vowed, his voice ringing clear and strong.
“And I promise to keep you humble, to challenge you when you’re arrogant, and to love you with every breath I have,” Isabella replied, her voice steady and full of unshakeable devotion.
“I now pronounce you husband and wife,” the minister smiled. “You may kiss the bride.”
Lorenzo pulled her into his arms, kissing her deeply and passionately as applause erupted from the guests seated in the garden.
That evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in strokes of gold and violet, Isabella stood on the stone balcony of the grand estate, looking out over the peaceful river.
Strong arms wrapped securely around her waist from behind, pulling her back against a solid, familiar chest.
“Penny for your thoughts, Mrs. Conti?” Lorenzo murmured, pressing a gentle kiss to the crook of her neck.
Isabella leaned back against him with a soft sigh of absolute contentment, resting her hand over his.

“I was just thinking,” she smiled softly, “that buying a five-million-dollar fake painting was the best financial decision you ever made.”
Lorenzo chuckled, a deep, resonant sound of pure satisfaction, pulling her closer still as the stars came out over their new empire.
