Chapter 6 - The Crown’s Vow

Six months later.

Spring had arrived along the Hudson River. The grounds of the Thorne Estate were vibrant with blooming cherry blossoms, lush green lawns, and the sweet breeze drifting off the clear water.

The dark legacy of the Voss family was entirely gone. Vincente and Damon Voss were serving life sentences in federal prison; their assets had been seized and liquidated by the court.

Through Nora’s tireless work over the past half-year, the Thomas Wren Justice Foundation had been established—funded by twenty million dollars stripped from the Voss estate—dedicated to protecting whistleblowers, innocent families, and investigative journalists from corporate and organized retaliation.

On the grand terrace overlooking the river, a small gathering of close friends stood beneath an archway of white roses and ivy.

Nora stood before a full-length glass mirror inside the estate’s master suite.

She wore an ethereal wedding gown of ivory silk and delicate lace, featuring an off-the-shoulder neckline and a train that caught the bright morning sunlight. Her hair was styled in soft, elegant waves, crowned with a delicate tiara of black diamonds and platinum—the ancient crest of the Sovereign.

She looked radiant, strong, and completely unbroken.

A quiet knock sounded at the door.

Gabriel stepped inside.

He took her breath away. He wore a tailored black tuxedo that highlighted his broad shoulders and commanding posture. But as he looked up and saw Nora in her dress, the powerful sovereign disappeared completely.

His silver eyes softened with an intense, breathless devotion that made her heart race.

He walked over to her, stopping just inches away, his broad hands gently resting on her waist.

“You take my breath away, Nora,” Gabriel whispered, his voice thick with unadulterated love.

Nora smiled, reaching up to gently touch the collar of his suit. “No dark overcoats today, Lord Thorne?”

Gabriel chuckled softly, leaning down to press a tender kiss against her temple. “Today, I am simply Gabriel. A man who was saved by Thomas Wren’s daughter.”

“You saved me first, Gabriel,” Nora murmured, looking up into his clear silver eyes. “You pulled me out of the mud. You gave me a home when I had nothing left.”

“You gave me a heart, Nora,” Gabriel said softly, taking her small hand and placing it directly over his chest, where his pulse beat steady, strong, and true. “Before you arrived, this house was a fortress of shadows. You brought light back into my life.”

He pulled a small velvet box from his pocket, opening it to reveal a simple, stunning ring of platinum set with a flawless emerald—the exact shade of her eyes.

“Thomas Wren was the Keeper of the Crown,” Gabriel whispered, sliding the ring onto her finger. “Today, I ask his daughter to share it with me. Not as my subject, not as my ward... but as my wife, my equal, and my High Sovereign.”

Nora’s eyes filled with bright, happy tears. She didn't answer with words. She stepped up on her tiptoes, wrapping her arms tightly around his broad neck, and kissed him deeply.

Gabriel wrapped his strong arms around her waist, lifting her slightly off her feet, holding her against his heart as if he would never let her go.

Outside, on the sunlit terrace, the music began to play—a soft, beautiful melody drifting across the quiet waters of the Hudson.

Hand in hand, Gabriel and Nora stepped out into the sunlight together.

The dirt of the pit was gone. The shadows of the past had burned away. And the Black Crown, once a symbol of fear and authority, had finally found its true heart in the woman who had dared to stand against the dark and bring truth to the world.
