Chapter 6 - The Vain LegacyFive years later, the sun shone brilliantly over the Oregon coast, burning away the lingering morning fog to reveal a sapphire ocean sparkling under a cloudless blue sky.

The sprawling estate was filled with the sound of laughter—real, uninhibited laughter that echoed off the stone walls and polished floors.

Jack and Noah, now nine years old, raced across the manicured lawn, chasing a golden retriever puppy while shouting strategies back and forth with the intense tactical precision of miniature generals.

Inside the sunlit, oversized kitchen, Norah stood by the marble island, humming softly as she poured fresh coffee. The smell of cinnamon rolls drifted through the air—warm, sweet, and comforting.

A pair of strong, familiar arms wrapped around her waist from behind, and a heavy chin rested gently on her shoulder.

"You're going to spoil them," Dominic murmured into her neck, pressing a warm kiss against her skin. "Jack already negotiated an extra hour of television time using a very sophisticated bribery system he must have learned from my old accountants."

Norah laughed, leaning back against Dominic’s solid chest. She turned in his arms, wrapping her hands around his neck, looking up into those familiar, piercing ash-gray eyes that now held nothing but warmth and absolute devotion.

"They get their stubbornness honestly," Norah teased, running her fingers through his slightly graying dark hair. "Besides, you spoil them more than anyone."

"Only because I spent four years making up for lost time," Dominic replied softly, his hands resting securely on her hips, pulling her closer. "And because I have the most incredible woman in the world keeping our family together."

From the open French doors, a chorus of shouts interrupted their quiet moment.

"Dad! Mom! Come outside! Noah fell in the mud!" Jack yelled, though he was already laughing hysterically alongside his twin brother.

Dominic let out a low chuckle, pressing one last, lingering kiss to Norah’s lips before stepping back with a fond, exasperated shake of his head. "Duty calls."

Norah watched him stride out onto the lawn, a tall, commanding figure who had once been feared as a ruthless mafia boss, now effortlessly lifting a mud-covered nine-year-old into the air while the other leaped onto his back with a victorious shout.

She smiled, resting her hand on the warm marble counter, feeling a profound, unshakable peace settle deep into her bones.

They had survived the storms, the secrets, and the shadows. And as she looked out at her family under the brilliant Pacific sun, Norah knew that their story had finally found its true, unbreakable beginning.
