Chapter 6 - The Promise of ForeverSix months later.

The spring sun shone down brightly on the lush green lawns of the Chicago Botanical Garden.
A small, intimate white altar made of blooming white roses and eucalyptus sat near the edge of a serene, sparkling lake. Soft string quartet music drifted through the warm afternoon air.
Standing near the altar were twenty people—our closest friends, Dr. Mercer, Nurse Sarah, Julian Vance, and several of my medical colleagues from Chicago General Hospital.
I stood at the head of the aisle, wearing a tailored navy tuxedo, my heart pounding in my chest with an overwhelming, joyful anticipation. Beside me stood Julian as my best man, while two-year-old Caleb and Lily—now fat, adorable nine-month-old babies— sat happily in a double white stroller decorated with ribbons, being watched over by Nurse Sarah.
The music shifted into a slow, breathtaking rendition of Canon in D.
Every head turned toward the back of the garden path.
Hannah stepped onto the lawn.
She took my breath away.
She wore a stunning, simple ivory lace gown that fitted her figure perfectly, trailing softly behind her over the green grass. Her dark hair was styled in an elegant updostack with small white flowers woven through it. She carried a bouquet of white peonies and lavender.
As she walked down the aisle toward me, her eyes never left mine.
All the pain of the past five years—the freezing rain on my parents' estate, the lonely nights in Cicero, the terror of the operating room, and the battle against my family's dark empire—faded away into absolute nothingness under the warmth of her smile.
She reached the altar and stepped up beside me.
I reached out, taking both of her hands in mine. Her skin was warm, soft, and trembling with pure happiness.
The officiant, an elderly judge who had helped Julian clear Hannah's legal records, looked at us with a warm, fatherly smile.
"We are gathered here today," the judge began, "to unite two souls who have proven that true love cannot be broken by lies, separated by distance, or destroyed by malice. Ethan and Hannah, you have walked through the deepest valleys together, and today, you step into the sunlight as one."
The judge looked at me. "Ethan, do you take Hannah to be your lawful wedded wife?"
I looked into Hannah’s beautiful honey-brown eyes, tears of absolute joy welling up in my own.
"I do," I spoke, my voice strong, clear, and ringing across the lake. "I promise to honor you, to protect you, to cherish you, and to spend every remaining day of my life making sure you never feel alone again. You are my home, Hannah. You always have been."
The judge looked at Hannah. "Hannah, do you take Ethan to be your lawful wedded husband?"
Hannah smiled, a tear of pure happiness spilling over her cheek.
"I do," she whispered softly, her voice filled with an unbreakable strength. "I promise to love you, to trust you, to build our life together, and to love our children with everything I have. You came back for me when I was lost, Ethan. And I will love you forever."
Julian stepped forward, handing us the simple platinum wedding bands.
I slipped the ring onto Hannah’s finger, right beside her infinity bracelet. She slipped mine onto my left hand, sliding her fingers into mine.
"By the authority vested in me," the judge declared with a wide smile, "I now pronounce you husband and wife! Ethan, you may kiss your bride!"
I pulled Hannah close, wrapping my arms around her waist, and pressed my lips to hers in a deep, passionate, reverent kiss that sealed our past, our present, and our eternal future.
The small gathering on the lawn erupted into joyful applause and cheers.
Down in their stroller, little Caleb and Lily began kicking their feet and clapping their tiny hands, joining in the celebration of their parents' victory.
When I broke the kiss, I rested my forehead against Hannah’s, holding her tight against my heart as the sun shone brightly overhead.
"We made it, Ethan," she whispered into my lips.

"We made it, my love," I replied, holding her hand tightly as we turned to face our friends, our children, and the bright, endless future stretching out before us.
The End.
