Chapter 6 - The Dormer WindowsSix months later.

It was a warm, golden May afternoon. The lawns of the Moretti estate were green and immaculate, dotted with blooming white rose bushes and tall oak trees swaying gently in the breeze.

Up on the second-floor balcony, right beneath the two large dormer windows at the top of the house, Alessandro stood with his arm wrapped around Elena’s waist.

Elena looked healthy and radiant, dressed in a light summer dress, her laughter floating softly on the warm air.

Down on the grass below, seven-year-old Mateo and eight-year-old Emma were running through the lawn sprinklers, laughing hysterically as they chased a golden retriever puppy Alessandro had bought for Mateo’s sixth birthday.

Clara sat at a patio table nearby, sipping iced tea while reading a book, watching the children play with a peaceful smile on her face.

Alessandro looked up at the dormer windows above the front door—the very windows Mateo used to draw on his paper scraps while trapped in that cold basement in the Bronx.

"What are you thinking about?" Elena asked softly, leaning her head against his shoulder.

"I'm thinking about how close I came to losing everything," Alessandro admitted softly, turning to look into his wife's eyes. "I spent twenty years believing that power came from fear, from money, from controlling men."

He looked back down at the garden, where Mateo was currently holding up a wooden toy boat to show Emma, both of them covered in water and sunshine.

"Now I know that the greatest power in the world is just a little girl stepping out of the rain to tell the truth," Alessandro whispered.

Elena smiled, kissing his cheek gently. "We're whole again, Alessandro."

"Yes," Alessandro agreed, pulling her close as the laughter of their children filled the afternoon sky. "We're home."
