Chapter 5 - The Fall of the Old GuardBy eight o'clock the following morning, the storm had cleared, leaving behind a crisp, golden sunrise over the city of Chicago.

Inside the high-rise glass boardroom of Romano Holdings, thirty board members, investors, and family elders sat around a massive mahogany table, murmuring nervously. News of Victor Romano's sudden arrest by federal agents had hit the morning news like a bombshell, sending shockwaves through the corporate world.
At eight-fifteen, the heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open.
Leo Romano walked into the room.
He looked magnificent—clad in an immaculate dark navy suit, his hair neatly styled, his posture radiating absolute, unchallenged power.
Walking beside him was Clara Bennett, dressed in a sharp, tailored black suit, carrying a thick leather portfolio. Behind them stood Marco, carrying a quiet, sleeping baby boy wrapped in a navy cashmere blanket.
The room went dead silent.
"Good morning, gentlemen," Leo announced, taking his seat at the head of the table.
"Leo!" one of the senior directors stood up, his hands shaking slightly. "What is the meaning of this? The press is reporting that Victor and Thomas Hail have been indicted for federal fraud and child trafficking! Is this true?!"
"It is entirely true," Leo replied calmly, placing his hands on the table. "My uncle Victor and Thomas Hail attempted to orchestrate a fraudulent takeover of Romano Holdings by concealing the birth of my legitimate son and heir."
Leo gestured to Marco, who carefully brought the baby over. Leo took his son into his arms, holding him up before the entire board.
"This is Arthur Leo Romano," Leo declared, his voice echoing with absolute authority. "He is my legitimate blood heir. The DNA results, verified two hours ago by three independent state laboratories, are thirty-six pages deep and attached to your folders."
The board members frantically flipped open the folders placed before them, their eyes widening as they read the undisputed genetic proof.
"Furthermore," Leo continued, looking around the room, "as of six o'clock this morning, my divorce from Isabella Romano has been finalized under emergency marital fraud statutes. She has surrendered all claims to the Romano estate and has left the country."
A heavy silence settled over the room as the directors digested the swift, brutal restructuring of the empire.
"One final matter," Leo said, turning to look at Clara Bennett, who stood proudly beside his chair. "Effective immediately, I am appointing Clara Bennett as the Senior Operations Director of the Romano Foundation, with full oversight of all domestic and educational charity trusts."
Clara gasped softly, a look of profound shock and gratitude washing over her face.

"And her daughter, Willow Bennett," Leo added, a rare, genuine smile touching his lips, "has been granted a permanent trust fund that will cover her education through university and secure her future forever."
The board members, recognizing the dawn of a new, unbreakable era under Leo Romano, slowly stood up one by one, erupting into a thunderous standing ovation.
