Chapter 4 - THE BOARDROOM COLLAPSE

At 4:45 PM, the executive boardroom on the top floor of the Vance Tower in downtown Boston was filled with twelve of the most influential family members, corporate partners, and asset directors of the Vance enterprise.

At the head of the long mahogany table sat Diane Vance.

She was dressed in a pristine, navy-blue designer suit, her hair styled immaculately, her face carefully painted to hide any trace of the breakdown she had suffered in the delivery room twenty-four hours earlier.

Around her sat Ryan's aunts, uncles, and senior trustees—people who had spent decades bowing to Diane's authority, believing she was the sole guardian of the family's prestige.

"Thank you all for coming on such short notice," Diane announced, her voice calm, regal, and laced with manufactured sadness. "As you know, my son Ryan and his wife, Sarah, welcomed a baby girl yesterday. However... tragic complications have arisen."

An aunt leaned forward, concerned. "Complications, Diane? Is the baby ill?"

"The baby is fine," Diane lied smoothly, wiping a fake tear from her eye. "It is Ryan who is failing. The immense stress of fatherhood, combined with his wife's volatile emotional state, has caused my son to suffer a severe psychological break. Yesterday at the hospital, Ryan made wildly delusional accusations against me... claiming he isn't a true Vance."

The board members gasped, murmuring among themselves.

"That's terrible!" an uncle exclaimed. "Ryan has always been a quiet boy. Is he on medication?"

"He refuses help," Diane continued, tapping a stack of legal documents in front of her. "Which is why, as the head trustee of the Vance estate, I am asking the board to sign an emergency resolution today. We must temporarily suspend Ryan’s trust access rights until he undergoes a mandatory sixty-day psychiatric evaluation."

She passed the signature papers down the long wooden table.

"Sign here," Diane instructed, offering her gold pen to her brother-in-law. "It is for Ryan's own good. We must protect the family fortune from his erratic behavior."

Before the brother-in-law could touch the paper, the heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open with a resounding BANG.

Every head in the room turned.

Ryan walked into the boardroom. He wore a sharp black suit, his posture towering, his expression hard as cold steel. Beside him walked Marcus Sterling, carrying a thick leather binder.

Behind them walked two uniformed officers from the Sheriff’s Department.

Diane's face turned white as chalk. She slammed her hands flat on the table, standing up. "Ryan! How dare you disrupt a private board meeting! Security, remove him!"

"Security works for the Vance Estate, Mom," Ryan said, his voice echoing with absolute authority across the room. "And as of thirty minutes ago, you no longer own or manage a single dime of this company."

The board members froze, looking between Ryan and Diane in complete shock.

"What is the meaning of this madness?!" Diane shrieked, her regal facade cracking wide open. "Marcus, explain yourself! Why are you escorting my son while he suffers a psychotic episode?!"

Marcus Sterling stepped up to the head of the table, placing his heavy leather binder right over Diane’s legal papers.

"Mrs. Vance," Marcus announced loudly so everyone in the room could hear. "At 3:30 PM today, Probate Judge Eleanor Vance reviewed the certified medical records from St. Jude’s Hospital, alongside the sealed 2016 Codicil to the Arthur Vance Master Trust."

Marcus pulled out a certified court order bearing a gold state seal and set it down in front of Diane.

"The court has officially verified," Marcus declared, "that Ryan Vance is not the biological son of Arthur Vance, due to documented maternal fraud committed by you, Diane Vance, during your marriage."

A wave of utter hysteria swept through the boardroom.

"WHAT?!" "Is this a joke?!" "Arthur wasn't his father?!"

"Silence!" Diane screamed, her voice cracking into a high-pitched, desperate shriek. "It’s a forgery! Marcus is lying! Sarah manipulated them all!"

"Furthermore," Marcus continued relentlessly, ignoring her outburst, "under Clause 14B written personally by Arthur Vance before his death, your lifetime management rights over the $150 million estate are hereby terminated with immediate effect."

Diane staggered back, her knees buckling, hitting her executive leather chair with a heavy thud.

"All bank accounts, corporate properties, luxury vehicles, and real estate holdings tied to the Vance trust have been transferred into the sole, exclusive control of Ryan Vance and his daughter, Maya Vance," Marcus finished. "You have sixty minutes to vacate your executive office on this floor."

"No..." Diane whimpered, her hands shaking violently as she stared at the court order. "No... Arthur couldn't have... he didn't know..."

Ryan stepped up to the table, leaning down until his face was inches away from his mother's.

"Arthur knew," Ryan whispered softly, his voice carrying a lethal weight. "He knew you were a liar. He let you live in your comfortable illusion for ten years after he died, waiting for the day your own cruel arrogance would trigger your total destruction."

One of the Sheriff's deputies stepped forward, resting his hand on his belt holster. "Mrs. Vance, we are here to escort you from the building. Please gather your personal belongings."

The twelve board members sat in absolute, stunned silence as the deputies helped a broken, weeping Diane up from her chair, leading the disgraced matriarch down the center aisle of the boardroom, out into the public hallway where executive assistants were already staring.

Ryan watched her go, then turned to the board.

"Now then," Ryan said calmly, sitting down at the head of the table. "Let's review the company's Q3 budget."
