Chapter 5 - The Judgment

Before Julian Croft or Helena could make a move toward the backstage exits, the heavy oak doors around the perimeter of the ballroom swung open simultaneously.
A dozen armed federal agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, accompanied by state troopers and representatives from the Securities and Exchange Commission, flooded into the room, securing every aisle and exit.
Special Agent Miller stepped onto the stage, holding a thick wad of federal arrest warrants above his head.
"Julian Croft! Helena Vance-Vale!" Agent Miller announced over the hall’s loudspeaker system. "Stand down and keep your hands where we can see them!"
"What is this madness?!" Croft shrieked, his voice cracking into a high-pitched, hysterical panic as he backed against the projection screen. "I am a chief executive officer! You can't touch me! Harrison is fabricating this!"
Harrison stepped onto the stage, plugging an encrypted flash drive into the master media console near the podium.
Instantly, the massive, thirty-foot high-definition LED screens behind the stage—meant to display the corporate merger presentation—flickered and lit up.
The room gasped as high-resolution video footage filled the screens.
It was the cloned phone data and hidden security camera footage from the Vale estate. The screen displayed crystal-clear audio and video of Helena sitting in her private suite, speaking directly to Julian Croft on an encrypted video line:
"The compound is working perfectly, Julian," Helena’s recorded voice echoed through the ballroom speakers, filling the room with horrifying clarity. "The girl is completely blind now. She believes it’s just her daily vitamins. Once I double Harrison’s heart medication dose on Friday, the doctors will sign off on a massive coronary failure. The fifty-one percent shares will be ours by the end of the month."
The footage shifted, showing detailed banking ledgers detailing the eight-million-dollar wire transfers from Aegis Holdings in the Caymans directly into Julian Croft’s personal accounts.
The ballroom erupted into pure, unbridled fury. Shareholders shouted in disgust, corporate directors backed away from Croft as if he were covered in plague, and news cameras flashed continuously, capturing every second of the exposure.
"You're a monster!" an elderly investor shouted from the front row, throwing his notebook at Croft.
Federal marshals swarmed the stage.
Two female agents grabbed Helena, who began wailing hysterically, her yellow dress crumpling as she fell to her knees on the stage floor, sobbing in pathetic terror as steel handcuffs clicked tightly over her wrists.
"Harrison! Please! Forgive me!" Helena shrieked, reaching her cuffed hands toward him as she was pulled up. "Julian forced me to do it! He threatened me! Harrison, I loved you! Please!"
Harrison didn't even look at her. He stood like a statue, his arm wrapped tightly around Sophie’s shoulders, protecting his child from the sight of the woman who had tried to destroy her.
Beside her, Julian Croft was pinned against the podium by three federal agents, his hands snapped behind his back, his eight-thousand-dollar suit rumpled and ruined.
As Croft was dragged past Harrison, he glared at him with ruined, bloodshot eyes. "You think you’ve won, Vale?! You’ve ruined your company’s stock! You’ve destroyed your family name!"
Harrison looked at Croft with quiet, supreme contempt.

"I didn't destroy my company, Julian," Harrison said softly. "I purged a disease. And my family isn't destroyed... it’s finally healed."
As the federal agents dragged Croft and Helena out of the ballroom in chains, the three hundred shareholders and journalists in the room stood up as one, erupting into a deafening, thunderous ovation that shook the very foundations of the hotel.
