Chapter 6 - The Garden of Valleti

One year later.
The summer sun beamed brightly over the rolling green hills of the new Valleti estate in Lake Forest.
There were no high concrete walls here. No dark, gloomy corridors. The broad stone house was built of light timber and glass, surrounded by magnificent, sprawling gardens filled with blooming roses, lavender fields, marigolds, and towering sunflowers.
In the center of the grand lawn stood a white wooden pavilion decorated with hundreds of fresh white and yellow flowers.
Music from a acoustic guitar drifted through the warm breeze as family friends, reformed business associates, and neighborhood children gathered on the lawn.
At the front of the altar stood Corbin.
He looked devastatingly handsome in a tailored navy blue suit, a white rose pinned to his lapel. Beside him stood Finch, wearing a sharp grey suit, looking like a proud uncle with tears in his eyes.
The music shifted to a gentle, beautiful melody.
Six-year-old Noel walked down the grassy aisle first, wearing a fluffy yellow dress, tossing white flower petals from her basket with a bright, happy smile.
And then came Sadi.
The crowd gasped softly as she stepped onto the aisle.
She was breathtaking. She wore an elegant, flowing A-line gown of ivory lace, adorned with delicate embroidered floral patterns along the train. Her dark hair was styled in soft waves, decorated with fresh sprigs of baby's breath. She carried a bouquet of wild yellow daisies and white roses.
She walked gracefully down the aisle, her gray eyes locked entirely onto Corbin.
Corbin felt his breath catch in his throat. The ruthless mob boss who had once ruled Chicago through fear felt his eyes overflow with tears of pure, unadulterated happiness.
When she reached the altar, Corbin took her hands in his. Her skin was warm, soft, and steady.
"You take my breath away," Corbin whispered softly.
"You look pretty good yourself, Mr. Valleti," Sadi smiled, her eyes sparkling.
The minister stepped forward, conducting the ceremony beneath the warm, golden sunlight.
When the time came for vows, Corbin looked into Sadi’s eyes, holding her hands tightly.
"Sadi," Corbin spoke, his deep voice carrying over the peaceful garden. "When my world fell into darkness, I built walls to keep the pain out, but I accidentally locked my daughter and myself inside a tomb. You walked into that tomb armed only with flowers, kindness, and an unbreakable spirit. You saved Noel. You saved me. You taught us how to breathe again. I promise to love you, honor you, and protect you and our family with every beat of my heart, for all the days of my life."
Sadi wiped a tear from her cheek, smiling through her happiness.
"Corbin," Sadi spoke, her voice steady and full of devotion. "I used to think love was something fragile, something that vanished when hard times came. But standing beside you, I learned that true love is a shield. It fights for you, it heals your wounds, and it builds a home where there was once only ruins. I give you my heart, my life, and my promise to stand beside you as your wife, your partner, and your best friend, forever."
"By the power vested in me," the minister smiled warmly, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. Corbin, you may kiss your bride."
Corbin didn't hesitate. He pulled Sadi into his arms, lifting her slightly as he kissed her deeply, lovingly, as the crowd erupted into cheers and applause.
Noel ran up to the altar, throwing her arms around both of their legs, laughing with joy. Corbin lowered Sadi and scooped Noel into his arms, holding his wife and daughter close against his heart.
Later that evening, as the sun began to set behind the Tuscan-style greenhouses, painting the sky in gorgeous shades of crimson, orange, and gold, Corbin and Sadi walked hand in hand through the lavender fields.
Noel was playing nearby with a gentle golden retriever puppy Corbin had bought her for her sixth birthday, her happy laughter drifting through the warm evening air.
Sadi stopped walking, leaning back against Corbin’s broad chest as he wrapped his arms securely around her waist.
She looked down at her hand, where her sunflower engagement ring and new gold wedding band sparkled in the twilight.
"Happy, Mrs. Valleti?" Corbin whispered into her hair, pressing a warm kiss to her neck.
"More than happy, Mr. Valleti," Sadi murmured, resting her head back against his shoulder. "I'm home."
Corbin looked out over the blooming gardens, listening to his daughter’s joyful laughter, feeling the warm, steady heartbeat of the woman he loved pressed against him.
