Chapter 6 - The Golden Sun of Milan

Six months later.

The summer sun shone brightly over the rolling hills of the Moretti vineyard, just outside the city of Milan. The air was warm, sweet with the scent of blooming grapes, jasmine, and fresh mountain air.

Villa Moretti was no longer a cold, dark fortress of underworld plotting. It had been transformed into a home filled with life, warmth, and laughter.

I stood on the wide stone terrace, holding a glass of fresh lemonade, wearing a light white sun dress.

Out on the lush green lawn, Emma was running through the automatic sprinklers, her bright, musical laughter echoing across the estate. She was accompanied by two large, friendly Bernese mountain dogs that Alessandro had adopted for her fifth birthday last week.

Beside me on the terrace wall sat her cream-colored teddy bear, its silver-stitched ear catching the bright golden sunlight.

Footsteps sounded on the stone porch behind me.

Alessandro walked out onto the terrace, wearing a comfortable open-collared white linen shirt and dark trousers. Gone was the icy, untouchable mafia king who lived in fear of traitors; in his eyes was a calm, profound contentment.

He walked up behind me, wrapping his arms gently around my waist and resting his chin on my shoulder.

"She has been running through those sprinklers for two hours," Alessandro chuckled softly, watching Emma play with the dogs. "Matteo is worried she's going to catch a cold."

"Matteo worries too much," I smiled, leaning back against his warm chest. "She's happy, Alessandro. Truly happy."

"So am I," he whispered, pressing a soft kiss against my temple.

He slid his hand down to mine, weaving his fingers through mine. On my ring finger, a simple, stunning emerald-cut diamond sparkled under the Italian sun—a ring he had given me three weeks ago when he asked me to be his wife, not for an alliance or protection, but because he loved us.

"The Genoa port records were finalized this morning," Alessandro said gently. "We officially dedicated the new logistics terminal in Julian's name. A bronze plaque has been placed at the entrance."

Tears of quiet gratitude filled my eyes. "Thank you, Alessandro. That means more to me than you'll ever know."

"He deserves to be remembered as a hero," Alessandro said. "And Emma will grow up knowing her father was a man of honor."

"Mommy! Look!"

Emma came sprinting up the terrace steps, her hair dripping wet, her red sneakers squeaking on the stone tiles. She skidded to a stop in front of us, holding up a small, freshly picked yellow flower.

"Look what I found by the roses!" she squealed, holding it out to Alessandro. "It's for you, Mr. Alessandro!"

Alessandro let go of my waist and dropped down onto one knee in front of her, accepting the tiny yellow flower with absolute gravity, as if it were the most valuable asset in Europe.

"It is exquisite, Emma," Alessandro said warmly, placing the flower neatly into the front pocket of his linen shirt. "Thank you."

Emma giggled, wrapping her wet little arms around his neck and pressing a sweet kiss to his cheek. Alessandro hugged her tight, holding her with all the love and tenderness of a true father.

When she pulled back, she picked up her teddy bear from the wall and hugged it against her wet dress.

"Mr. Teddy says we should eat lunch now," she announced authoritatively. "He's very hungry."

"Well," Alessandro smiled, standing up and picking Emma up in one smooth motion, carrying her on his hip. "If Mr. Teddy says it is time for lunch, we cannot disobey."

I laughed, following them into the cool, sunlit dining room of the villa.

As I looked at my daughter laughing in the arms of the man who had rescued us from the dark, I knew that the pain of the past was finally healed. The secret hidden inside a child's bear had shattered an empire of traitors, but in its place, it had built a sanctuary of love, family, and a future brighter than the golden sun of Milan.
