Chapter 6 - The Perfect BouquetOne year later.

Spring had arrived in Chicago. The city was alive with green light, blooming trees, and soft breezes blowing off Lake Michigan.

The gardens behind the Bellanti estate in Evanston were radiant. White gardenias, dark red peonies, and purple hydrangeas filled the manicured terraces overlooking the water. There were no white lilies anywhere on the property—only vibrant, living colors that celebrated life and new beginnings.

Inside the grand sunroom of the main house, Mara stood before a full-length mirror.

She wore a breathtaking, simple ivory silk gown with delicate lace sleeves that flowed gracefully to the floor. Her dark hair was styled in soft curls, woven with tiny sprigs of sweet alyssum. She looked magnificent, her face glowing with genuine happiness.

Juno stood behind her, crying tears of joy as she adjusted the long silk train of the dress. “You look like absolute perfection, Mara. I still can’t believe this is happening.”

“Believe it,” Mara said, turning around and taking Juno’s hands with a laugh. “No plots. No poisoned vials. No fake arrangements.”

“Speaking of arrangements,” Juno said, pointing toward the side table. “Your bouquet arrived.”

Mara walked over to the table where a small, elegant box sat waiting. She lifted the lid.

Inside was a handcrafted bouquet created by Juno and the team at Veil and Stem. It was composed of soft cream roses, dark green Italian ruscus, and vibrant crimson peonies. Bound tightly around the stems was a luxurious emerald-green satin ribbon.

Mara lifted the bouquet, turning it over in her hands out of instinct.

Tucked beneath the emerald wrap was a small, hand-written silk tag.

Mara smiled, reading the words written in elegant black ink:

To Mara—The only flower that could bloom in the dark. Forever yours, Luca.

A soft knock sounded at the sunroom door.

Luca stepped inside. He wore an immaculate black tuxedo, a single crimson peony pinned to his lapel. He froze for a second when his eyes landed on Mara, his breath catching in his throat.

“You are... extraordinary,” Luca said softly, walking slowly across the room until he stood directly in front of her.

“You’re not supposed to see the bride before the ceremony,” Mara teased softly, holding her bouquet close.

“I’m the owner of the shipping line,” Luca replied with a quiet laugh, taking her hand and lifting it to his lips, kissing her knuckles gently. “I make my own rules now.”

He looked down at the bouquet in her hands, his eyes lingering on the green satin ribbon and the silk tag underneath.

“No lies,” Luca murmured, looking deep into her grey eyes. “No secrets. Just us.”

“Just us,” Mara agreed softly.

Outside, the spring sunlight bathed the terrace in warm, golden light. Guests—true friends, restored family members, and legitimate business partners—were seated along the outdoor aisle, waiting to celebrate a union built not on political convenience or fear, but on truth, respect, and deep, enduring love.

Luca extended his arm to her. Mara slid her arm through his, holding her perfect bouquet tightly against her heart.

Together, they walked out into the sunlight, stepping forward into a clean, bright future they had fought for—and won—side by side.
