Chapter 2 - The Digital VaultJulián screamed—a high, horrifying sound of pure agony—as the caustic fluid hit his chest and shoulder, splashing across the left side of his jaw. He stumbled backward into the hallway, dropping the heavy shotgun onto the linoleum floor.

Elena didn't hesitate. She lunged forward, kicked the shotgun under the heavy washing machine out of reach, and bolted past him into the grand corridor.
"Kill her!" Julián shrieked, clutching his burning face, rolling on the marble floor. "Victoria, kill her!"
Victoria appeared at the end of the hall, her hands shaking violently as she raised a small silver revolver. She pulled the trigger without aiming.
BANG.
The bullet tore through a nineteen-century oil painting on the wall behind Elena, sending showers of gilded plaster down onto her head.
Elena ducked into the library, slamming the heavy double doors shut and throwing the iron latch into place. She was gasping for air, her heart pounding like a trapped bird against her ribs. Her lungs burned from the chemical fumes of the laundry room, but her mind was crystal clear.
She knew she couldn't outrun a younger woman and an armed man forever inside the mansion. She needed leverage. She needed to expose the dark web network before they could wipe the servers.
The library was a vast, two-story room lined with leather-bound books, floor-to-ceiling oak shelves, and a massive mahogany desk where her late husband, Mateo, had managed the family business. Behind the desk stood a bank of high-definition monitors used for estate security.
Elena rushed to the desk. The main monitor was glowing with a strange, dark interface she had never seen before.
It wasn't the estate's usual camera feed.
It was a live, encrypted streaming dashboard.
In the top corner of the screen, a digital counter blinked in bright neon red numbers: LIVE VIEWERS: 14,209.
Below the main feed—which was currently displaying the empty, open white coffin inside the viewing room—was a rapid scroll of anonymous chat messages written in dozens of languages:
User_9982: Where is the girl? The timer was set for 12:00 AM.
Sovereign_Buyer: Is this a glitch? We paid the second installment of 100 Bitcoin!
Dr_X: If the subject has expired prematurely, we demand an immediate refund from the escrow key!
Admin_Julian: Technical difficulty. Stand by. The final sequence will resume shortly.
Elena felt a icy wave of horror sweep over her. This wasn't just a sick scam; it was an international auction house for human suffering. Her own son had converted his childhood home into a broadcasting studio for the darkest corners of the dark web.
She grabbed the computer mouse, her fingers trembling. Beside the keyboard lay a small silver hard drive glowing with an active blue transfer light. It was labeled: PROJECT CAMILA - ARCHIVE & BIOMETRICS.
She pressed her hand against her mouth to suppress a sob. On the drive was a folder containing hundreds of fake medical files, manipulated blood tests, and recorded video clips of Camila sleeping while sedated, annotated with precise dosage schedules for heavy neurological drugs.
"You monsters..." Elena whispered, her voice shaking with righteous fury.
Suddenly, the heavy oak doors of the library groaned as a heavy object slammed against them from the outside.
"Elena!" Victoria’s voice came through the thick wood, shrill and frantic. "Listen to me! You don't understand how deep this goes! It’s not just Julián! The people who funded this... they are powerful men! Judges, politicians, cartel leaders! If this stream drops offline without a resolution, they won't just kill us—they’ll hunt down that little girl wherever you hide her!"
"You sold your humanity, Victoria!" Elena yelled back, frantically searching the desk drawers for a USB flash drive or a backup storage device. "You are going to spend the rest of your life in a concrete cell!"
"There are no cells for people like us!" Victoria shouted, her tone shifting from panic to cold malice. "Julián owes thirty million dollars to a European syndicate! The restaurant empire he tried to launch in Miami went bankrupt eighteen months ago! They were going to break his legs, Elena! They were going to take this estate!"
"So you decided to sacrifice my granddaughter instead?!"
"She was supposed to be adopted!" Victoria screamed, her fists pounding against the door. "The stream was a performance! The buyer in Cyprus was going to take her and give her a new life! We were giving her away to save ourselves!"
"You lied to her!" Elena spat, her hands finding a heavy steel external hard drive. She yanked the cable from the main computer, plugging the external drive in, and initiated a total file mirror of the dark web server. "You told her she was sick! You poisoned her!"
The computer screen flashed bright blue as the data began copying: TRANSFERRING 412 GB... 12%... 24%...
Outside, the pounding stopped.
Silence fell over the hallway.
Elena stood perfectly still, her ears straining to catch any sound. She knew that silence from Julián and Victoria was far more dangerous than violence.
Then, she heard it.
The subtle, wet sound of a liquid being poured beneath the library doors.
A sharp, pungent stench drifted into the room, cutting through the scent of old paper and leather.

Kerosene.
They were pouring lamp fuel under the door.
