Chapter 4 - The Midnight BroadcastAt 8:55 PM, the quiet street outside my estate was completely still.

Inside my home study, the warm glow of the desk lamp illuminated a thick stack of papers marked FINAL DISSOLUTION & ASSET LIQUIDATION.

I sat in my high-backed chair, acting out the role of a defeated, desperate executive. I rubbed my temples, sighed heavily, and signed my name across the top page with an exaggerated flourish, holding the document directly within the hidden camera's narrow field of view.

A mile away in a high-rise executive suite, Arthur Sterling and his top directors were watching the live, encrypted feed on a wall-mounted monitor, sipping champagne as they finalized their massive short orders.

"We have him," Sterling laughed, tapping his glass against his chief financial officer's cup. "Execute the order. Two hundred million dollars short on Vance Tech at market open."

What Sterling didn't know was that the video feed he was watching wasn't a simple local camera stream. It was being broadcast simultaneously to a secondary receiver inside the headquarters of the SEC's Enforcement Division and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Every second of Sterling’s unauthorized surveillance, every transmitted frame of stolen corporate data, and every coordinated trade executed on that stolen information was being logged in real time as evidence of corporate espionage, insider trading, and wire fraud.

At 9:15 PM, my phone rang. It was Victoria.

"The trap is closed," she said. "The SEC just flagged Aegis’s short orders. The moment the market opens tomorrow, we aren't announcing a sell-off. We're announcing the official completion of the Apex merger with a twenty percent dividend payout."

I looked up at the tiny, invisible lens inside the desk lamp.

"Turn off the camera, Marcus," I said softly. "The show is over."
