At the massive mahogany desk near the windows, Theo Kane sat reviewing the quarterly earnings report for the entire Kane Hospitality Group—now fully restructured, debt-free, and operating under his direct, visionary leadership.
The door opened softly, and Odessa walked in carrying a tray with two cups of hot coffee and a plate of fresh pastries from the bakery downstairs. She wore a tailored charcoal blazer over a silk blouse, her badge reading Chief Operations Officer, Kane Hospitality Group.
She set the tray down on the desk, leaning over to press a warm kiss to Theo’s temple.
“Morning, Mr. CEO,” she teased softly.
Theo reached up blindly, his hand finding her waist and pulling her gently down onto his lap. He buried his face in the crook of her neck, inhaling deeply.
“Morning, Chief Operations Officer,” he murmured against her skin, a smile tugging at his lips. “Tell me something good.”
“Nova got her graphic design internship at the downtown firm,” Odessa reported happily, running her fingers through his dark hair. “And the new employee wellness program we rolled out across all five Chicago properties has dropped turnover by forty percent.”
Theo lifted his head, turning his face toward hers. His blind eyes were filled with an unmistakable, quiet devotion.
“You saved this empire, Odessa,” he said softly. “You and your quiet footsteps.”
